ive finally started to do a bit today.cant keep waiting for a builder but he is pricing it.ive started removing the timber above the pens inside the building.the inside is not much better than the outside.got a bit more to do including getting the water tank out.had a bit of fun dropping it down to a manageable level.vjust keep cutting the timber with a chain saw,put it in my dumper and cart outside and burn.had a great fire going so took a picture for @exmoor dave .will continue to add pictures as it progresses.have to remove the asbestos/fibre cement board next then break the floor, remove then take out another 18 inches of soil.got a tree surgeon coming tomorrow to cut down 5 trees.

Probably sell the left hand side one and keep the other to rent out.builder reckons it will cost in the region of 200k.left hand side one has an open kitchen diner living area and 3 bedrooms with one en suite and a utility room.the right hand side one has 4 bedrooms with 2en suites and another open plan kitchen diner living room and utility room again

Am I right in thinking your existing structure is timber frame and corrugated tin sheet roof. I have a chicken shed of similar construction so very interested in this as I had dismissed it for being timber.

I think they have changed the goal posts a bit and the buildings have to be sound and not need a lot of structural support now

No no John crack on, get advise first.
So long as the building is capable of being converted there are IIRC 4 things you have to satisfy them on, dammed if I can recall which but not v arduous.
If no one can see the building and it's in reasonable nick you should be ok to make it convertible! The rules suggest you can't replace, only repair. If it's falling down its hard to get around this, we are going to build a building inside it then if necessary in the future apply to replace the structure size for size.
The rules may not be around for ever so don't hang about

Ye the main frame is 4x2 clamped together with ply nailed on for strength.the roof is corrigated aluminium.it is so weak you can tear it of and roll up like tissue paper..the outside wall will be moved inwards 18 inches and be built of masonary as will the interior walls.the putside will then be clad in timber.the roof will be heavily strengthend with a huge amount of insulation everywhere

Bet you are glad you got someone in to do it - looks awful breaking off into small bits.
When you get all that cleared out you'll get a proper look at size of internal space and its potential.

I thought they would get at least half done today but probably 10%.they have to gun out the wooden framework to get the sheeting out that is concreted in the floor
