If Scotland succeeds in obtaining independence from England, and then gives it up to Brussels, she will lock herself away from her largest market, and into one where she has little penetration, and one which has no purchasing power in any case, any price she gets for her goods will be held down by a combination of no funds and Franco German desire to maintain their ability to have cheap imports. Gordon Brown selling off the UK gold reserves had nothing to do with EU at all. It did have a lot to do with staving off a financial banking collapse in 1999. As usual the banks had got their fingers burnt with dodgy dealing in the "gold carry trade" Brown had to openly and with prior notice put a large amount of gold on the open market in an effort to bring it's price down and thus save the banks from collapse. The good old taxpayer then picks up the bill for idiot bankers again.
