Niggly problems with newly purchased used UTV

Hello there,
Took delivery a couple of days ago of a 2018 utv, not too many hours and paid towards 10k for it.

We saw it at the dealers yard a few weeks ago when it had literally just arrived there from previous owner and was still sh1tty etc which is fair enough. Took it for a spin up the road, seemed grand, noticed two things whilst we were there. Some trunking missing and heater vents in the cab missing. Pointed these out and trunking has been done, vents haven’t but have been told they are on back order.

Since weve had it I’ve noticed a few things, nothing very major.
Led roof lights not working, one of the electric window switches not working, no wiper blade, lock doesn’t work on drivers door (it’s kept at my cottage away from the main farm, so needs locking) , a hole in the passenger footwell about tennis ball size (this had been covered over with an Isuzu floor mat), larger crack in drivers footwell, string on both doors to prevent them opening too far (the proper straps/stays are missing). The buggy hadn’t even been cleaned which I was a bit bemused about, thought they’d at least try and make it look like some effort had been put into it.

Was told it was going through the workshop before we had it so am I unreasonable to expect these things sorting if i phone him up tomorrow? Or do I have to just lump it and pay to get the parts my self?
Dealers attitude has been quite poor throughout the process so I’m not hoping for much.

Thanks in advance

Need to be avin a word there. Pay by cheque or card? All those small things should have been sorted in workshop, what make is it?

Aye, looks like everyone thinks the same as me.
Just wanted to know I wasn’t being unreasonable.
Used our usual finance man to fund the buggy so that’s another complication.
Il see what the dealer says tomorrow.

It’s certainly not unreasonable to have your expectations

There's a LOT of variables in this. But. You looked at it, knew what condition it was in, so let's start there. Did you get a decent price buying it pretty much as is? Did you confirm the dealer would put it through the workshop and get it near to perfect condition before delivery?

No offence intended but I wonder if the dealer made a quick sale at a price to match and now you're expecting a nearly new buggy.

If it’s 2 years old with low hours, premium cab and heater sounds very cheap to me. That spec down here would be 12/13k down here if you can find one. Sounds like the poor condition is reflected in the price. Are you sure didn’t buy bought as seen which would explain the trade in price.

Well that was I was worried about, ‘bought as seen’ was never mentioned at all and when it was due to go through the workshop I just assumed anything not working would be put right, perhaps I was wrong to assume this.

Spoke to the dealer middle of last week and he said it had been serviced. I asked if he’d found much wrong with it, he said “no, it’s grand....just the heater vents that we’ve had to order which might take a few weeks”

Not really expecting it to be perfect, even if he just fixed the lights, electric windows and replaced the bloody string on the doors I’d be happy 😃

If he says the condition is reflected in the price then i suppose there’s nothing I can do. Il check in the morning how many hours/kms are on it as I can’t remember quite.

Speak to your finance man if it is on HP..... It needs to be fit for purpose, even 2nd hand.

If it was sold at a "Trade" deal, then that is a different matter.

The selling price should have absolutely no reflection on the quality of the machine.
If (and it sounds like it's yet to be established with any accuracy) the deal was done on the assumption all the noodles were sorted then it doesn't matter if it was bought for £100.

Personally I'd never agree a price out deal before it's been through workshop. You never know what you're going to find and I there's also a tendency to think "oh well the man's seen it and bought it. Just get it cobbled together and out the door "

I seem to remember the term "Fair wear and tear excepted" which would remind me of the old fail safe "Always get it in writing". Relying on memory and what was said at the time is the road to disaster. `On the other hand, if the seller wants repeat sales (which as we know are always the best sales), certain basic ground rules apply. But otherwise, I'm afraid I would assume "sold as seen". Does the dealer publish "Terms of Business" anywhere? These should be easily seen by the customer to be effective. If this isn't the case, no dealer would ever be able to scrap a vehicle as they'd always need to be in perfect condition.

Sounds like an unpolished turd to me, no way thats been through the workshop!! any fitter would of washed it off 1st. Your still spending a good chunk of cash on only a 2-3 year old bike, i would expect everything to be in working condition and hole filled. Do you deal with this dealer on a regular basis or a one off purchase? If it,s one off, then send it back, if you do regular business with them, i,m sure they will sort out everything, if they don,t you know what to do. Send the heap back and get trading standards involved. Goodluck.

Did the salesperson not inspect machine when working on deal because he was too busy or covid distancing??
Recently it was said on this site these machines get a lot of abuse and it is good idea to change when warranty finishes
