Nissan Navara D40 2005-2015 Chassis Inspection

I'm sure there are a few of us on here with a D40 Navara so thought I would do a write up on the current chassis inspections, I'm sure there are plenty of folk who aren't aware...

It is well know that the D40 has a weak chassis and eventually splits in half. Nissan are doing something about it now and any D40s can be taken to a dealer for an inspection, however they have to be 12 years & under for Nissan to do anything about it. This is not a recall, merely a "gesture of goodwill".

Make sure the dealer you take it to, takes the tub off the back. The first dealer I took mine to didn't do this, and gave it a clean bill of health even though I knew there was rotting underneath. Took it to a different one as I wasn't happy, they did a much more thorough job. The dealer takes pictures of the chassis & holes/rot, writes a report and sends it off to Nissan Head Office.

Head office then come back to you with 3 options.

1) - chassis is fine - they will send vehicle to a body shop, have the chassis sprayed and hope it lasts a bit longer

2) - chassis needs repair - they send pickup to Spain to have a new box section put on around chassis. Takes 3-4 months. You get a brand new NP300 (new shape) Navara as a courtesy vehicle.

3) - D40 is bought back by Nissan & scrapped. This has just happened to my 07 plate. You get a 1 time offer which you cannot contest, simply take it or leave it. They bank transfer you the money and come and collect it a few weeks later.

If your pickup is approaching 12 years old, be better to get it checked sooner rather than later.

I always thought it was only those up to 2010 affected.

Last time I took my 2015 D40 for a service I was told the chassis would need inspecting at some point and they’d be in touch? So obviously all of them are! Not heard anything since. Not quite 3 years old yet...

basically the same chassis as earlier ones with a bit of plating, ok if only keeping 4-5 years but will not stand the test of time or hard work.

Believe 12-15 had some extra plating added but the chassis remained the same.

11 plates have definitely failed & been bought back by Nissan, but that is the newest I have seen.

My 2014 has cracked despite being checked by nissan 3 years ago and was deemed OK will nissan do anything about it now

My 14 plate has had a inspection and had a chassis respray.
If the chassis gives any bother I am tempted to go down the route of a new galvanized chassis.

You mean an old chassis that's been galvanised?

I'm sure I've seen somewhere that you can get a galvanized chassis? May be a original chassis that has been galvanized.
