nitrogen application

Gosh that’s early. T2 here, would be last week of May normally.

I've noticed this before, down here crops are a lot more forward compared to 'up country'- I used to go on holiday after the agronomy season had finished, which was basically around mid-July, and you knew it because the foragers were roaring around doing the wholecrop and crops were going drier by the day. We would then pack up and go off to the Peak District where the wheat was still green as green...

I've held back a bit of my fert on some of the wheats in case we get no more rain rightly or wrongly , droughty soils and slightly backwards wheat has had all it's N for 2 weeks now , proud and forwards wheat was due to have 250 kg last week but I only gave it half of it in case the rain didn't materialise which it didn't and looks like this weeks has disappeared of the rain maps .
Need some rain now so these good looking wheats can fulfill their promise

Flag leaf emerging on all varieties here. All had 200 kg N so far. The stuff that was looking hungry early on and had early N looks ok the forward stuff that had a later application looks like it can’t get hold of it. Would normally be going through with the protein dose at flag leaf but can’t see much point. Should I trickle a bit more on in the hope of rain that isn’t forecast !!?

Going to put the last 1/3 on in the next day or 2 and hope we catch some rain at the end of the week, the rain we had last week has certainly freshened the crops up so might as well get the rest on while we have damp soil

starting wheat final dressing tomorrow no great rush as forecast for tomorrow is the same as its been for a fortnight .i.e rain showers which havnt materialized.

there that should do it, the kippers on the bbq last weekend didnt nor did outing with the grandkids, but now realise that was not livlihood dependent so would not bring rain to spoil things . Need 3 days without rain to finish spraying and fert application plus other fair weather jobs so building a head of steam to avoid any rainfall. IF THIS FAILS IM GOING TO CUT SOME GRASS and put the lads on standby to pick it up sunday

If all else fails, drag something wooden and precious outside into the garden and paint it....

Not all like this but must have found a spring in one of the fields, spent a good hour washing her off last night, you wouldn't think I'd spent a minute.

sorted, all spraying up to date only 1 load left timing within next 7 days, Put a lid on fert spinner this morning only 3 load left so we can finish , the none forecast rain showers have arrived, and all it took was to mend the lawn mower in readiness to cut the lawn(which is now too wet) before the bank holiday family bbq. perfect, we will decamp to the shed
