Nitrogen Fertilizers, How often to apply?

I'm not sure of this is the right forum but here goes.

I work on my own farm and I'm not sure how often and how to apply nitrogen fertilizers to save time and my back.

I apply granular urea as a side dress to my crops(loose leaf lettuce) then irrigate after to prevent too much nitrogen loss. I do this split application method every week then stop near plant maturity.

My question: Is it more efficient to apply more granular urea to lessen the application time? For example, instead of applying urea every week(about 5grams per plant), I should apply 10 grams then Re-apply after two weeks(instead of every week, application will be split to every two weeks).

Second question : Is this a viable and efficient way of applying granular urea?

Thanks for the responses 😊😊

First question, is where are you based?

Second, is there a reason for continual N application to the crop as opposed to just applying it to the crop after the plants are established?

I have no experience of lettuce growing other than in the garden for personal use... :)
