Nitrogen on canyon spring oats

Yes, and I treat those with equal disdain. Ironic how Yara is one of the world's biggest urea producers (and sells it here too) yet continuously slags it off in their UK ads!

Despite there being no mention that the Urea volatilisation research is done in long polythene cloches, set at a controlled high temperature and humidity, with fans at one end to force the airflow over the test plots

I think it's about time somebody asked Yara for their research paperwork so we can fact check their protocol, and call out their bullsh!te adverts...

Was thinking about your 140kgN/hec while spreading yara amidas on mine this morning .

I wonder if liquid is not as efficient and evaporates quicker . I saw an article saying the yen crowd are consistently finding yield lower with liquid so perhaps you have upped rates to over come this , possibly granual totals could be lower ? View attachment 790656

I think liquid is way more efficient than solid (especially when dry) and have only seen better yields since using it

We grow 15% plus protein e wheat for milling - you can’t do that unless you can get plenty N into the plant

My oats will get the balance of 140kgs this week as soon as it starts raining

Do yen have ties to promote stuff ? Sure it was their data that had found this with liquid but I probably had seen it first in a free magazine .

Just wondered if Clive had a higher than most rate for N , to make up for any loss

The 140kgs N rate for oats is in RB 209 revised up at lot in the latest edition - in conversation with the man responsible for rb209 last year at a monitor farm meeting he said expect further increases in future editions as they had found oats responded justifiably much more than previously thought

A much easier option if I were to use those high rates would be to flat roll the crop at flag leaf emergence. Already using CCC and Canopy.

The key to spring oats is low low seed rates. I drilled 106kg/ha this year but I can’t remember how many plants that was aiming for but I will check later. I dare say we also applied more N than @Clive
Around 250 seeds square meter with my tgw. I was closer to 400 in comparison

What growth regulators are you lot using on them . Mine are very lush .

Agronomist recommends adjust 0.65 and alatrin evo at 0.13 saying both far kinder to crop with lower residues . A lot dearer than basic 3c and moddus tho

Used litre of CCC on some thin oats. Used some canopy on some thicker.

Adjust just fills me with dispair. Agrii agronomist?

Not much as dear as very very flat oats though.
In drissly sw england with its oft delayed harvest, it s actually a grain saver if it goes over ...to .save them blowing in the wind (y)

Kinder to the crop and lower residues?

Kinder than 3C and Moddus of course which are so well known for torching crops or making them end up 6 inches tall?
