Nitrogen sensing

I've looked through the new Productivity scheme and see a N sensing grant. I've demoed an Isaria which I was impressed with if not a little complicated and expensive. I've also used satellite imagery for 3 plus years but in the wet West there aren't enough clear images coming through to use!
What are people using and recommend.
I've an ag leader on the Bateman that could be used with the ag leader sensors while spraying, then use to make application maps I think. Obviously the N Sensor has been around for years.
Only a 400 ha farm with about 340ha of cropping.

I use an n-sensor and have done since 2006. More than happy with it. It will work with your Bateman with another screen installed so won't disturb the ag leader setup.

Thanks Mark. Could you say it's worth the money having it, is there a clear difference in the crops?
What mode do you use and how do you calculate rates? I've no experience with it but think similar to Isaria. Absolute mode looks good.

I said Bateman because I use the krm spinner on the back.

We're now scanning daily for optical imagery at 3.5m resolution! So as long as there are clear days you can be sure of having a recent image. We're also providing daily updates on growth stage, GAI and biomass from our SAR radar imagery and crop models.

Try a free trial of our new Contour platform with the above imagery and hyperlocal weather data here: http://contour.Rhiza-UK.com/

does this grant pay for N sensor but not SAR images (which are way better IMO and experience) ? if so that's as crazy as the grant !!

Yeah, it's a bit like the government offering money for DVD box sets when Netflix is available!

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...5/Improving_Farm_Productivity_handbook_v2.pdf

Real-time sensors come under the robotic equipment list (so N-sensor/Isaria/TopCon would all be eligible I imagine). Minimum grant size is £35,000, 40% of total project costing minimum £87,500! Not sure exactly how much sensors are but it would have to be a very big project to qualify for any grant! Unfortunately this mainly seems to be aimed at towards large growers (just need to look at their own examples!).

crazy isn't it - the more I read of this grant scheme the more it seems to have been drafted by someone who has no clue of real innovation ! it's about 10 years behind the curve

Not sure its worth bothering with vari N using a spinner, too much influence from wind, and often too wide bout widths for poor materials being spread IMO.Far better to use liquid N if the controllers can react quick enough?

Its also in the small grant scheme but I dont know the differences between the 2 schemes.

Have run the Agleader Sensors for 8 years and have been really pleased with them dead simple to set up and calibrate etc and work well and have been incredibly reliable. Weren't particularly expensive when we got them and more than paid for themselves many times over. Can't really say anymore

Crop sensor on the CPS Grant https://www.cpsmall.org.uk/ allows £22,500 for a crop sensor. 40% grant funds £9k of this. We've sold a few through the scheme but amazed more people aren't taking advantage of it. Offer ends next week.

I thought people don't know if they have been successful or not for the CPS Grant scheme yet so how have you sold any through it? Or do you mean the LEADER scheme?

Should have worded differently. We have had indications of sales from people who’ve applied. You have 150 days to make the purchase after the decision. Deadline closed at midday today.

Ah ok, all for crop mounted sensors or for SAR? Do you know when applicants are likely to know if successful as it seemed like the funding wasn't even secure at the time of application (going off what the guidance said).
