6.5mm here last night. Pleased to see it too.

Still a couple of fields of wheat to finish plus some of the spring barley second splits. Been held up by hot dry windy weather. Great for crop growth but not so good for applying liquid N!

Have to say, based upon this year's experiences, I have really liked having a mix of solid and liquid. We have used solid to keep timeliness when it's been too hot for liquid, and the reverse when it's been too windy for solid.

I cannot quite understand the black and white nature of the solid liquid debate, it is all fertiliser! If the judgement is that crops need an application in May I honestly don't think UAN products are the way to go.

True. The aim has always been to finish the main N programme in April but life doesn't seem to work out like that.

With the exception of a few bits, our N3 on wheats has all been AN. I wouldn't have been that happy putting N30 on in the heat and sun we've had without any definite rain on the horizon whereas AN can sit there for a while.

Have managed to pretty much avoid any scorch this season, have got a good liquid pass on nearly every field to at least ensure the headlands got a reasonable dose, and have saved a pass by being able to get liquid blends that are more flexible than solid.

Finished the last N on WW last night just before a couple of mm
SB was finished last week, that’s it for another year !!

Life is sooo much less stressful now I’m 100% solid again, this year I think it’s really helped that we can put a spreader and sprayer out on the same day, often in the same field if needed in the few opportunities we have had, and not have to worry about choosing between the two or worrying about gaps.

I’m mainly Urea now, so have to think about applying before rain etc, but have kept AN for the last split on WW, saved a good bit of £££ too, it’s just that little bit around the edge of the field I miss with liquid, luckily I have big fields and no water....

I think there will be a lot of people putting liquid N on with the flag leaf well out which I assume is not ideal.
My philosophy with liquid N now is if leaf 3 is coming out just get it on, even if you expect to scorch leaf 4 while you’re doing it. At least you know it’s on and you’re not fretting about scorching on of your major yield building leaves.

I just started n3 today (liquid) bearing in mind I'm a bit further North than you lot. Agronomist is saying leave it till after T1 and sclerotinia, but will be weather dependent. If it's wet it will be liquid. (if my last bit turns up soon)

I wont be finishing T1 until the weekend. Always aim to fit the splits of N roughly halfway between fungicides. Mine wont be getting a protein spray, so this is the last dose so will be large.

Last small split will go on WW here in a week or so's time, we always put a larger dose on 2nd split in case of dry weather further down the line, Urea, which seems to slower to get into the plant. All SB and SW done, the aryl drilled stuff had 2 splits and the later just the one hit of 220kg Amadas.
I must say the WW has really got going this last week with the warm weather, could do with a drop of rain now, ironic when ploughing up game covers this morning I had to pull out of one due to almost getting stuck!!!

It is here on forward Graham. Rushed to get N3 on it but still the rest to do! Have you still to do N3? Concerns me does liquid and flag leaf emerging!

Is this normal time for flag leaf emergence for your forward wheat?

I keep reading of this late harvest approaching, but don't see it with winter crops. Spring crops are behind at the moment as they have just been sown in this area, but every chance to catch up a bit.

I’m a good week to 10 days late getting it on for one reason or another. I’d say winter crops are exactly where they usually are at this time of year, caught up rapidly

Still half my N to apply to wheat, should have upped the rate on the second dose with hindsight. Will get it done next week.

T1 on wheat next week as well, flag leaf spray on w barley also next week.
