Goings on continue to get weirder.

bacto dropped back from 150 odd to 67 over about 3 days. Brilliant we thought we were onto a winner. Now spiked back up to 150’s with the only changes I’ve made is dumping high cell cows with the cell count either not changing or going up! How is that even possible.

Ours is up and down too ... worse on partial collections (ie when they take 4-6k litres) rather than when it’s a full load

I need to send samples to qmms but when I went to do it they dropped drastically so didn’t want to change anything. Now we’re into the Christmas period there seems little point. Bacto breakdown didn’t seem to return anything either. I wouldn’t be so pee'd off if there was a pattern atleast.
Qbed is arriving tomorrow ( blooody Irish was meant to be last week!) so we shall see what difference a properly clean bed can make.

We used QMMS to get to the bottom of our chronic problem. We also got them to test both mains and borehole water
Probably in the end it was a combination of things that helped but still get the odd spike. TBF to Glanbia, if you get on to them they usually discard an abnormal reading

Had this just before we dried exerything off bacteria stuck at 100/130 for couple of weeks
Put a 'bomb' through parlour and tank next bacto 200+ and then back to 100/130
Problem is we didn't find anything before dry off and a bit worried it will start again in Feb when we start milking again

What were your problems in the end

Just a thought is your tank house locked at night? Probably unlikely but someone might be adding to your bulk tank.

a fair comment. Milk buyer picked up on cap not on milk tank the other day which was a one off but did make us think so we’ve tried spraying with acid before and after milking with no help. Even tried flushing the plate cooler backwards and nothing.

Combo of things.
Now dust beds with hydrated lime, put in industrial washer to ensure udder clothes are washed at 90 deg, change udder clothes more frequently, put in extra UV lights on water but have to accept that with a number of milkers there is always going to be some variation but I do wonder why part pick ups show a higher bacto than full loads

Mainly down to cows and milking rather than bulk tank and parlour

Borehole could be interesting. I’m sure we wash plant and tank with mains for this reason but is it feasible that high bacteria in the borehole drinking water could follow through as it makes up so much of the milk. This could potentially answer some variation as we know sometimes we run on more mains than borehole just due to water pipe sizes coming from the tanks.

Had my bacto breakdown back, not sure what the problem is. Bacto gone to max 170 to min 28. Ive gone to once a day milking today so will be interesting what if that will make any change
