Being doing well to get 4 cuts in Lincolnshire..?

Not on my land. Takes too long to warm up. But three cuts will be heavy enough. First cut last year. All from digestate.

How much shed for 180 head, and would you have to "roll" the wheat? Presume 150ac of straw is enough?

A farm assured livestock farmer would need any purchased grain to be farm assured. However we buy imported maize also. No FA needed

A load of barley bought from a local merchant arrived with a paasport and sticker from the merchant's store but (in conversation) the driver said it came straight from a non assured farm and then admitted he had written a new passport. Total fraud!!
The load got rejected but it shows how corrupt the system is

Totally corrupt. Yet those on the payroll of RT do nothing about it. What does that make them?

Shooting syndicates don’t need it to be assured but it’s a pain bagging it up. I shift 5 t per year that way. Only non assured market I can find.
I do about 20 t it's worth it add a bonus for bagging it up or they bag their own

Wheat on its own would be no good , that’s why it’s easier to sell barley farm to farm .
You need a chicken shed to use your wheat

Thing is......surely I want maximum value for my wheat, whereas chicken shed wants wheat at lowest cost? How can you marry this up?

I would be fine with continuous spring barley.

Wheat into your own chicken shed works well. You get the dung out of it which sort of pays for the bedding used. You will be able to grow wheat with near zero bagged nitrogen. Don't think in terms of what you can sell the wheat for, but more in terms of turning the wheat into poultry meat- which is far more valuable.

But if wheat was £160/t and is now £210/t, surely my chickens want to eat the cheap wheat and me sell the expensive? That's the bit I can't figure out as both parts are quite seperate.

You will have to work out what benefits you most overall: cheap chicken food or high price wheat. In reality both enterprises go hand in hand. Depending on how big the poultry enterprise becomes, you may become a net consumer of wheat.

What if farm assurance for livestock in place but not for the corn ?? Can he feed his own corn ??
