No broadband but 4g for smart tv

You need a 4G router which will take a SIM or e-sim which will provide network connectivity for your dad's house.

EE have an unlimited data SIM currently at £23+VAT, or Three offer similar at a bit less iirc. Which network gives the best 4G coverage there?

We are limited to O2 or Vodafone or the networks that piggyback them unfortunately here

Vodafone do unlimited data Sims too, and Gifgaff operate on the o2 network, so there are still options.

Don’t think you can get unlimited sims that will work in routers, they will only work in mobile phones and only then will have a cap at how much data you can tether. Most have cornered on to using unlimited sims in routers as they don’t move about!!
depends how techy your dad can be but an unlimited data mobile and mirror to the tv using air play etc is an easy way to do it. We have a smart tv in caravan and mirror things off phone or ipad for little one when she gets cranky!!!

I have heard similar things, if you have 'unlimited data' then use it in a router with multiple devices drawing on it.
It seems that some networks don't like people downloading high volumes to multiple devices and they quietly turn you down to about 1mb.
But then again you might be OK, it all depends if you crop up on their radar.

I had an EE 'unlimited data' Sim to try a fortnight ago and the EE sales guy said that it was fine to put in a router, and that's what most people had them for. There is a 'fair use' limit, but it's several terrabytes, and only to stop some serious pee taking going on. I sent it back in the end as it didn't offer enough extra speed to be worth the extra cost here, as I still needed to keep a landline anyway.
The Three 'unlimited data' sim I tried 2 years ago was on the same basis, but speed was worse than the landline broadband here.

I use a giff gaff phone sim (O2) in 4g router.
They do an always on sim which I think restricts speed after a certain amount of gb usage for £25 / month and an unlimited sim for £35, which doesn’t restrict speeds. We use it instead of landline broadband and stream tv etc with no probs.
Good thing with giffgaff is that you are not tied into a contract and can change sim deal you are on or cancel with out any notice.
