Does that mean that my trailer test has been a complete waste of time? And if so, will I get my money back for training /test ??

Id speak to your insurance as your premium should be less than those that will tow under the new rules with no licence. Argue ti out with them and you never know you may drop a few hundred a year.

I'm afraid these days very little insurance is taken to an underwriter to assess risk. It's Little Britain and the computer says no etc based on the inputs of information you submit . The ABI have a strangehold on these things

I disagree. We deal with NFU and our local agent is very good. My renewal for business takes about 4 hours and we often find small ways to reduce the premium. This is NFU Bourne office. Good team there.

That's not the same thing. Modifying what you insure for is not the same as actually getting hold of an underwriter (NFU Agent isn't one) and reducing the actuarial risk

I used to be given an allowance for my age, motorbike / HGV / blue lights driver. Now they look only at your postcode, if vehicles are locked in a shed and your age

There are some agents who will negotiate with the underwriters, but it's not as common as it used to be. Most of the big agents and underwriters rely on a relatively narrow range of standard parameters because for the average policy it is simply not worth the time to calculate risk profiles for special cases.

As previously mentioned there are very few Underwriters at any Insurers actually capable of making an informed decision or actually allowed to make a decision. Everything seems to be based on what the computer says together with a complete adversity to any risk. Many Underwriters rely on pre conceptions of farming that were outdated years ago. Most of them are scared of their own shadow in case they Insure a risk that has a large claim which Insurer management then blame the Underwriter for. A new approach is required!

Not really, this seems to leave those without a trailer test who thought they’d be legally allowed to tow a trailer in a few days time in limbo.
Many thought they’d save some money not doing a test and would be legally allowed to tow a trailer from the 15th, now they don’t know when they’ll be allowed to tow a trailer.
That could be a right PITA if you need to tow a trailer
