Macron can make life as difficult as he likes businesses will just find a way round those problems and it will be the French that lose out, he has an election in 22 and needs to be careful he diesnt shoot himself in the foot

I am afraid you don't know the French mentality over this.
If he gets a deal over Fishing (which is highly likely) then he will be a hero.

Hero to zero in 20 months if other sections of the french economy suffer due to his posturing, I have spent a fair bit of time in France and know their way of thinking, one 2 one they are generally lovely people but when it affects their incomes they always fight dirty and with a common purpose( I dont have any issue with that ) however his opponents in the election will also point out any downside to any deal/ no deal, it will be french against french for that battle, and there could well be far more losers in the french economy than winners in the fishing industry.
Dont forget boris is very intelligent and he plays the buffoon, it's a long game and we are barely at half time, the french have played into his hands with this blockade, perhaps boris made his announcement knowing exactly what would happen

I think you could be right.

Boris is intelligent and the Europeans have shown their true colours.

Go Boris, give Macron a bit of ‘roast beef’. (y)

I'm baffled why they are making such a thing about this particular variant. There are probably a thousand variants out there, why this one?
I think its location and Brexit are the biggest reasons plus a bit of scare people into not travelling at Christmas.
Do you really think Chris whitty and the other scientists made this all up about a new faster transmiting strain as some kind of joke.
I really do despair with some thinking.

No they didn't make it up but we are the world experts in genomic research of viruses. Apparently we have done over 60% of the worlds genome testing and the old saying of if you look hard enough for something you will find it.
It was always expected this would mutate and we have the scientific expertise to find it which apparently first showed up in September.

So as they say it is everywhere and has been found in South Africa as well as Kent and Sussex.

The good thing announced a short time ago is that the Truckers can have the lateral flow tests so at least they will get a quick answer. Unfortunately for them there will be a number of false positives with it.

They are ‘making a big thing about it’ because our leaders came out to publicly say that this new variant was (possibly) 70% more transmissible than the original and that it was ‘out of control’ in the UK.

What would you expect any neighbouring country to do, at least until they’d worked out what was what? I’d like to think that even a populist eejit like Boris would do the same, if the boot were on the other foot.

No I dont what ?
40 other countries have banned entry by people from the UK
Why would the french president trap hundreds of his own citizens in the UK for 2 days minimun the brit lorries just turned around and went home
He had no choice. The decision was made by the french civil servants if he ignored them he is in deep trouble if it goes bad,
The british government banned movements out of tier 4 areas including kent,
The health secretary said " The disease is out of control"
You aré paranoid,

I think you're the paranoid one, my reply to Frank was about his comment on macron making a point about what life could be like after jan1st if we dont cave in, it was nothing to do with the response to the new variant but pointing out that if macron pushes his luck too far and boris calls his bluff then France loses all the fish, and if they then get silly it could backfire, as I have said I love France and admire the way they pull together against outside interests, but come election he may regret going too far.

This is not a ND dress rehearsal, the borders won’t be shut to business they will just be more like a dog agility course than an autobahn. As for the nasty French shutting down borders to travellers after Boris said it was the worst variant yet and Hancock saying it was out of control - how dare they and the 40 other countries protect their own citizens and health care systems! Oh yes and we banned London and SE residents from travelling the U.K. on non essential travel but that’s ok. The usual suspects come out all
Anti EU/France etc, but would declare BJ a king of people had the situation been the reverse. At this moment in time countries need a leader who has the balls to stand up and take no shite in doing right thing for the country, shame we have an idiot and a
team of yes men.

I agree , the gilet jaunes pushed their cause so much they ended up pissing everyone off including their compatriots
