No fungicide 2021

its marketing basically

farmers fall for it

we called them growth stages when i was at college
That might be true but spray timing is based on leaf emergence not growth stage, that said we seemed to get by with two fungicide passes without issue.

You’re not alone!
With the scorch? Seen some terrible winter barley scorch sprayed last week. Thankfully not mine. To all of those using straight prothio or prothi/teb I don’t think it’s particularly responsible from a resistance management point of view regarding septoria. Or am I missing the point again?

If using the the same actives for each spray then maybe, but I would have thought that using different modes of action over the course of the growing season will alleviate this?

That’s not what’s been suggested in the past as I understand it. Surely though prothio is the most co form of sdhis? I don’t really want to be forced down the revystar route too soon

Oh Gawd, have I got the wrong end of the stick again? I was thinking so little curative action now I ought to take a guess on the weather to optimise protectant activity by treating in anticipation rather than reactively.

I'm waiting for a Fungicide program to turn up for some of my Winter Linseed tomorrow, that is really to act more as a PGR than for disease purposes, knowing that rain is on its way which will prevent me getting it on.

Am I worried? Should I try to get it on before the rain arrives?
No.

The rain will do far more good than anything I, anybody else or any spray will ever do.
Bring it on!

nearly may and yet to use a fungicide, crops spotless clean

cold, dry - could this be the first year we don’t use this group of chemicals at all ?

rain could change things yet but it will need to be significant now to rebalance smd’s

anyone else not applied a fungicide to wheat or barley yet ?

thinking we might as well apply for organic conversion at this rate !

Done the cheapest possible at the weekend and just had 7mm of rain so should be a good move for 5 weeks protection.

Having to relent on the Skyfall, it’s got yellow rust. Will get fungicide on Friday, probably amistar and teb. Hybrid rye has got flag leaf emerging and is still spotless ... should go whole season without fungicide 🤞

Noticed a bit of yellow rust showing up in patches on a couple of forward Skyfall fields here too when doing fertiliser today. Glad it had a T0 last week to tide it over, especially if the forecast turns.

I've been putting the last of the N on wheat today and as I've gone round I've had a good walk in each field, it's all JB Diego and is clean as a whistle except for one rogue leaf I found which was covered in rust pustules🤔

I've got teb/exopi to use up and generic amistar in stock so depending on the forecast I may go in the next few days or I may wait.

In the good old days it was so much easier, a good slug of epoxi and a litre of bravo and bobs your uncle. A good dry year T1 for the east.
