no plate offence

Stopped this morning in my transit when delivering spuds, had lent it to a mate the previous day who was clearing garden waste and melted the no plate by a fire. I have a couple of magnetic ones so stuck that on to tide me over. Yeh yeh I know I'm wrong but... Anyway the eager young constable tugged me this morning asked me why I thought I had been stopped and then told me I'm inline for 3 points and £100 fine. The points seem ott to me and I can't find anything about points for this offence on google. Any thoughts. He said if I had a pic on my phone I may have been ok, have since found one.
sigh.

don't have a front plate on a few cars ;-) they fell off, no one ever seems to notice and I keep forgetting to stick them back on

its an offence under construction and use, small fixed penalty fine and no points .................significantly less than a speed camera

Think yourself almost lucky....the fine can be "up to £1,000"...... points are a new one on me.

I may have been in a similar situation once....but not with a dodgy white transit!! :)

an incorrect number plate (attempted fraud / perverting the course of justice) is not the same as a missing number plate (construction and use offence)

I used to do a lot of greenlaning on endro bikes and number plates were always getting smashed or just flat out disappearing so there was nearly always someone in the group getting pulled. Normally just got a warning, I think someone once had to go get an MOT to prove the bike was once again legal and produce that at the cop shop. Never had a fine and certainly never been threatened with points, after all these things happen not like you're trying to mislead anyone as to the identification of your vehicle!

In fact come to think of it I ended up printing my number plate on card, laminating it and sticking that on so I can't see magnetic plate being any worse? The trailer has my wife's cars number plate cable tied over the top of mine whilst my truck is being fixed!
