It's been an exceptionally dry year though. I expect some first wheat on light land will be poor too. Winter barley seems to do ok in the 2nd cereal slot on the light stuff.

did you have a look at the roots? if there was a long window between harvest and sowing your ground could have slumped

Averaged 9t/ha sold of Solstice last year all DD on light land and 1/2 of that was second wheat which performed well. Its the season not the system id suggest.

Rather expecting the same, at least on the earlier drilled 2nd wheats. I think there will be quite a big spread in yields. 1st wheats held on much better.

You did also say that wheats on heavy land might be very special. Were you referring to 1st wheats?

Heard from a local merchant that some of their rubbed out samples of Skyfall have TGWs of 62. As I said, could be a big spread.
