Besides dropping off several small lots of culls at Welshpool (I only ever drop, pen & go anyway), I have been to a couple of pedigree sales this Autumn. At the Beltex sale (Sept 1st?) EVERYBODY had masks on in the sale ring, but very few around the penning. Anyone that knows the huge scale of the market though, will know that the shed is little different to being outdoors anyway, but with a rain cover.
At the Charollais (and Suffolk & Texel) sale on October 1st, pretty well everyone had masks on all the time, to the extent that it was difficult to have a decent conversation with anyone.
Dropping another cull in last Monday, it struck me that most of the market staff about were wearing masks, even when penning up, and very few vendors in sight ‘loitering’.

Sh*t’s always going to happen in a busy, big market, but I don’t see that they could have done much more to avoid it tbh, without stopping all sales and just becoming a glorified collection centre for the abattoirs. Good luck to all the staff that work there, and I hope everyone makes a full recovery quickly.

No surprise at all dropped lambs off in town on Wednesday had all the letters and warnings off the auctioneers over the last few months about social distancing masks etc only to see one of the auctioneers walking around no mask on and a fag hanging out of his mouth!😡

That is terrible, common sense seems none existant, over a century ago during the Spanish flu they had the foresight and sense to deal with such an issue

Farmers discussing possible c19 failings in markets isnt the sharpest thing to be doing on a public forum, getting them shut down will really give you something to moan about. Speak to the auctioneers if you have concerns or keep out of markets. Use your brains guys.
Well said !!!!

Would that be a market where a “popular” senior auctioneer sits at the gate in his discovery on sentry duty?
