Bought a GBX75 last week which is supposed to have the new extreme boost technology as the GBX155, but with 2750A, I fully charged it but wouldn’t even register when I tried to jump start a little Massey 390T. Charge lights on the NOCO were all flashing in sequence instead of being a solid green light; tried several times and play around with the crocodile clamps but all I got was the flashing lights and a regular loud clicking sound from the booster every two or three seconds.

Took it back to Halfords and they refunded my £250 without any quibble. Luckily I wasnt actually relying on it but rather just trying it out on a dead battery. I know that NOCO are supposed to be the best on the market but this has put me right off their products.

PS Also impossible to find an independent main UK importer to ask for informed advice and problem solving etc.

Mine didnt work the first time I tried it, dont know what I did wrong imo, maybe wasnt a good enough earth even though it lit up as if it was all connected and ready to go.

Used it successfully yesterday and this afternoon though.

TFF should just employ me as a bot/product placement advisor and just pay me to send out these absolutely essential products that are so blindingly obvious they should be mandatory for continued TFF membership. You really should have a NOCO on the farm and one of their trickle chargers, too.

Perhaps it would be better if the manufacturers supplied the items FOC for you to then distribute automatically to us to make sure we're all keeping up with the essential bits of kit every farmer needs.

I'm lacking a telehandler if you happened to be speaking to JCB at any point.... ;)

I'm sure you already know this, but for any other users on here the crocodile clips only have solid metal on one side so it's important to check you've got a good connection especially as some terminals aren't always placed for each attachment with large croc clips.

When your NOCO failed was it showing ascending coloured lights and emitting a repeated clicking sound? TIA.

Problem with NOCO is that as I said, there is no central UK importer you can contact to ask for advice!

That's normal behaviour for them when they are working OK.

Have you checked the croc clips are well attached?
Yes, messed about with them several times to try and get a better ‘bite’ on the dead battery clamps, but no joy.
What am I doing wrong do you think? I just attach the crocs from the NOCO as you would with jump leads.

you need to know when to use the override button
It won't go live if it can't detect a live circuit
If the battery is fairly dead and you start to crank, the battery voltage drops below a certain point and the noco switches off.

So you press the override button and it automatically stays on over ride until you crank over the engine and it starts?

To me it’s either dodgy connections, or a dodgy unit.

My suggestion would be buy a replacement off Amazon with “free returns” and give that a test to compare. If that works better, then you can be fairly sure it’s a dodgy unit you have.

Thanks for all the advice from everyone. Just so disappointed as I really believed this unit would be the ideal answer to starting anything on the farm.

Will try another NOCO on offer from Amazon as you suggest, maybe the standard GB150 (in case there was a bad batch of GBX75s) hopefully with better results this time.

GBX75 says it’s rated for 6.5l diesel. It’s worth considering that it’s possible that this suggestion could be based on a “warm” day at 15 degrees C rather than a cold morning at zero. It takes quite a bit more effort to start a tractor on a cold morning when all the oil is cold and thick.

If you try this and it won’t start it then you know you’ve got problems… 😆

Knowing my track record with these things, if I sold a few tonne of barley and bought one to jump start the 135; all I would get is an alarming display of flashing lights, loud clicking noises, and lazy wafts of smoke from all the wrong places.

it didn't fail as such, it failed to start the machine i hooked it up too, either because it was too much for it or because it wasn't connecting fully. the unit works cause i used it yesterday and again today and was fine.
