Non CE sheds

Building a shed on landlords land as a tenants improvement requires all boxes to be ticked, and the factor will exploit any loophole to avoid compensation in future. Non Ce shed kits are available at quite a discount, i just want to know the legal position. Is this a new law?

Came in June 1st 2014. I don't think it'll affect you as a Custer to buy a none ce marked shed, I think it's just if the supplier gets caught

Only possible come back in owner of shed could be an insurance claim if anything ever happened. They like a reason not to pay.

Havnt seen a great deal of price change since ce came in? Where are these heavily discount frames? Bearing in mind its only the steel that may have altered in price.

As everyone else has said, crash on get it made (y)

You can employ a welder to weld it, you give him the drawings ect to work to and that's fine, ce marking only counts for selling a product, because your welder is selling a service it doesn't count :)

Does said welder person have to be a coded welder ?. I made my own 100x50 and it's still stood up but it's for my own use so CE don't matter, I have also welded sh1t together that's in a power station but I'm not a coded welder, and neither was the fella I was working for !. We only get those jobs because the big firms that are CE have left them out or don't want them, the people at the sites over look what we're doing as the jobs need to be done to get the sites signed off its a fooking joke tbh!.

The way I interpreted the rules no, as long as the product isn't being sold on

What happens if you build a non CE shed?

There is nothing to stop you fabricating your own shed on site, if that's what you choose to do.

CE marking is about assuring the factory process from design through all building material procurement and quality and qualification of welders. Its all about ensuring quality!
If you want to do it yourself, I suggest you at least get some advise on design/steel loadings for your specific location.

Also just check with your Insurers that they will cover your self made building, as some may restrict/exclude cover on non CE buildings and their contents in the event of a failure/collapse?

Whatever your political view of it, CE confirms a quality and standard...who would not want that !
CE doesn't confirm quality, only the design standards, which are questionable value anyway. In real terms all it does is shift the burden of responsibility onto the producer/importer should anything go wrong or a customer complain. Look at a lot of the stuff coming from China - it claims compliance with CE standards, but in reality it's nowhere near.

As I understand it CE marking reglations apply to sheds in series production therefore, if you make just one it doesn't need to be CE marked. The regulations are policed by trading standards.
