Non domestic RHI application

Had a straw burner installed and I am keen for the installer to get the rhi application in. The electrician is coming this week to finish the install off. As I have not had the system up and running I am not keen on paying the full balance until I have had it up and running for a bit. The installer is saying I need to pay all monies up front before the application can go in. Is this correct?

Payment receipts from client 100% of the contract balance owed needs to be presented to Ofgem on application under MCS rules.

<45kW MCS accreditation, non needed if above both RHI

To many people have held back monies on these companies until they seen it working for a while then they struggle to get paid and once ofgem stuff done its even harder to get paid.

You wouldn't buy a car a hold back the last payment until you've done a few hundred miles so why treat these guys any different.

It’s quite rare but shoddy workmanship does exist on many levels. We are currently auditing many ashp that cowboys have installed, this is yesterday’s condemned install. En route to Lincolnshire to condemn another and get the installer thrown off mcs.

From what we see and hear it is not that rare at all, and as MCS and RECCS and Trading Standards offer ZERO protection to the commercial end user. No one gives a sh!t if it's not happening to them. If we had a spare £28k to take them court to get naff all back then we would. Our advice to any small family business would be to hold a sum of money back until satisfied. We wish we did. We are out of pocket by tens of thousands and the company in question is winning 'business women of the year awards', 'eco tourism awards' and so on, losing mcs accreditation hasn't affected them. Once they are kicked off MCS there is naff all MCS can do for you anyway. Just waiting for the installers next victim. It really is all bulls**t. Screw the cowboys.

It is rare @Happiness you being a case in point. In your research of the technology can I ask if you approached the company in experience and/or did you receive other quotations and did you contact references?

I don’t really want to dredge up open wounds but you are a rare case.

Oh no worries. It is not an old wound at all, it is still very much an open wound which is costing thousands to slowly rectify. Around here (West Wales) it is very common to have have a go bob jobs popping up all over the place conning people. Not sure which areas you cover. Perhaps you should think about opening up an office in west wales, business would be booming for you.
We got there information of the installer through the governments OFGEM website and found the link to the MCS website list and looked for companies nearest to us. They were one of the nearest. We wanted to use and support a local company. They were fully accredited with MCS and NAPIT. We got a quote from 2 companies, unfortunately the installers we went with were the better conmen.

We cover GB with installs Kent, Inverness, Wales and Hull.

I understand spending your hard grafted cash within the local economy and from those pictures the wrong insulation has been used half arśed and I know the story about the rest. I’m trying to get as many cowboys lynched as possible. I was with an Ofgem auditor a few months back and he claimed they are targeting these types more now. But it’s still little consolation to your case.

At the moment we are over in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire targeting installs that have failed audit with 2 installers that are just about to get legal action against them. But they will probably just Phoenix when the time comes.
