Does anyone else think that the reason that beef has gone up too 4pound a kg because non Irish meat can't come into southern Ireland and get packaged and called British and Irish. My uncle has always said that this happens and that southern Ireland is the dumping ground or the world I don't no if this has been talk about before just putting it out there and interested in all your thoughts as to why were getting more for beef and lamb even though brexit happen.

Thought the British beef price rise, was driven by the prospect of lockdown easing and restaurants, hotels, pubs, etc, reopening.
Beef cannot be put on those plates, without filling up all links of the chain well beforehand. Everybody between the farm gate and the restaurant is busy filling their stocks. All at the same time. It may well be a short enough window, until the stocks are in balance, and the frenzy will cool off.

I don't believe the Irish would ever do anything underhand or illegal. 🎼

On the subject of Irish Beef, has anyone watched the Farmer Phil u tube videos of his bull beef enterprise?

Him and his father moving bulls about (father talking on his phone) Phil in a pen off 500 kg+ bulls with no escape route, horned and dehorned bulls in the same pens, pretty poor (IMHO) welfare conditions and he says that bulls are still classed as "prime" up to 24 months.

And what exactly has that got to do with this thread?!

I didn't say the standards were any better or worse, just different.

Although I suspect some UK retailers would not be happy with some of the welfare standards as they are not RT/RSPCA compliant.

And if someone is happy to go into a pen packed full of mature bulls, or to chat on his phone while 30 odd bulls are let out into the yard, that's their problem.

ROI have their own 'RT' level of compliance. Such as any such schemes are, they are only as good as what is inspected on the day and sheets of data correlating to criteria desired..

Had a chat with my cattle buyer today and he said exactly this. Now that the border is in the sea they are not managing to get Irish and even Polish beef in to mainland UK as before which is causing a shortfall in numbers.
His belief is that everybody in the trade has known about this sort of practice, but didn't realise just how much was going on.
I hasten to add, I have no knowledge of this, just what he said.
I expect that other factors are also affecting the prices, currency, demand, etc.

I had £4.35/kg for finished cattle last week, long overdue, just hope they don't over cook it and the price comes back.

What is your problem? Are you related to Phil?

Do you only comment on things that you have seen with your own eyes, and people you know personally?
I’m not related to them...I just don’t see the point in pulling someone to bits for no reason at all...maybe if the thread was about them, but why even bring them into it when they aren’t here to defend themselves
