HGV Trucks should do heavy load road haulage, plain and simple imo. Safer for both the driver and the other road users. Tractor haulage is archaic.

Trying to make sense of the article...... an old artic trailer ? pulled out of the nettles ? using an old dolly ? travelling at such a speed the trailer is bouncing ? Got an £80k tractor but can't afford a decent trailer ?

Anyhoo, armchair speculation again. Are we going to bring in MOT's, and licences because of the actions of a very small minority ?
Far better restricting tractor speed to 20kph, if you're really keen to see something being done.

Really ? Certainly a lot of new Fendts and trailers shedding straw on roundabouts at harvest. MOT's and licences won't change that though.......

It is a terrible thing but it would be good to know if it was something on the trailer or dolly broke/came off, or was the pick up hitch not latched properly and came undone?

The news article said it had "just been bought." That doesn't excuse the towing of an unroadworthy trailer but the chap wouldn't have known what state he was going to see the trailer in & was just doing as he was told. No mention of his employer in all of this who he was acting for when he collected the trailer.

Ag trailers are not required to have an MOT or statutory inspection. Yet.

Towing artic trailers on dollies should just be made illegal. If you want to pull an artic trailer then buy an HGV tractor unit that it was designed for

If you mean the tipper from a couple of years ago, yes it did.

The company director/transport manager and maintenance garage owner are currently doing time for that debacle.

Did the driver have an HGV licence ? Was the tipper MOT'd ?
