Good to see her giving support.
I did hear that the NHS has discouraged solo parachute jumps as there are so many injuries. Raised £500 but cost £2000 to plate their ankle that night.

We are hoping to get a night landing site in our village. Had a public meeting the other night and it was a good turnout. There was some concern about objrctions but in the end the public straw poll was 10:1 in favour so all good. They do 'usually' carry a doctor on board and yes, their equipment is far superior to what the land ambulances have. Plus, they said they would be with us in 12 minutes which is probably half the time that the single local ambulance would take and that's assuming that one isn't busy. Then they can get you to a specialist unit very quickly if it's trauma or burns or whatever so you get the very best care right away rather than being dropped off at the nearest hospital and then transferred later. So Bristol, Plymouth, Torbay makes little difference.

I know of at least one person who is walking around now and would have either been dead or permanently paralyzed without the Air Ambulance. What price do you put on that?

Without turning this in to a political thread, it still amazes me how the entire air ambulance fleet Nationwide are not funded centrally - you wouldn't ring for a charity ambulance or a private one.

Same with the spreading Blood Bike network. Riders delivering not only blood but breast milk for prem babies and other urgent items such as patient notes, electronic scan information and even small pieces of urgently needed surgical equipment. Some bio samples and the like also being transported now too I believe.

Totally run by volunteers, many of them riding their own machines and paying running costs bar a bit of petrol. Same for the backroom staff manning the phones and admin.

3 years ago, some Hospitals were a little dubious, not now... A better service and no using hugely expensive taxis or couriers for the same job.
