Happy Centenary one and all, regardless of your political affiliation! May we endeavour to improve upon the difficult work of building peace and prosperity for our people's, in this day and the years to come.

Yes, Terence said what needed to be done, 60 years ago. My grandfather organised a platform for him in this locality, and received abuse for doing so. We have all been slow learners, to paraphrase Seamus Mallon. But we are getting there.

Hopefully your grandfather didn't get the same treatment as George Forrest. If people had got behind O'Neil instead of Paisley then the past 50 years would have been VERY different.

So happy anniversary, and may the second century be more peaceful and stable than the first one, whatever the political direction.
Probably good to see Daniel O’Donnell has his hat in the ring for DUP leader. If he wins that, he will hopefully set the DUP on a more “pragmatic” path.

Had to look Forrest up there. Interesting story, terrible treatment. No, Granda wasn't attacked, for they would have valued their own hide more than to risk that (he was tough in body and character), but they did sneak round in the middle of the night before the meeting and daub 'no pope here' on the road at his farm entrance. Granda sat at countless hearths of catholic and protestant alike, and bought and sold cattle and horses with them, and employed Catholics and protestants, so there was nothing thought radical or unusual about Cpt O'Neills policies in our house in the sixties. It was just a mirror of how most of the countryside lived and worked together or side by side. (Apart from the vexed matter of segregated schooling, which still hasn't been tackled).
