Northern Ireland Milk Price Tracker

We've certainly found out this year, there are not many wet farms, simply the fact it rains to much. Starting to see cow paths in the paddocks to the drinkers, something I haven't seen since I was a child. A lot of our issues ,silage grass slurry etc etc are down to overstocking. Reduce and enjoy
You'll be an old man soon enough
.........or maybe get more ground I suppose

I've just been bouncing over a place this morning on the loading shovel that I hadn't been able to even sow fertilizer on the past three or maybe four summers. I do recall about ten years ago having the neighbours old self propelled harvester to lift grass off it when our harvester broke down. The weather patterns had really been getting into a bad state last few years.

Is the dry weather effecting anyone's milk production. I've enough grass. Buffer fed with a few bales of hay. Cows milking fine. Younger cattle looking good even thought they've been eating stalks. Surprised how little does them. Cutting 2nd cut this week. Need it in to release some grazing. Was told another heat wave for August and a dry sept

Mixed emotions about the weather, ground needed it so will do the world of good, but trying to fabricate my new dairy at the minute and it ain’t easy trying to weld in the rain, hopefully dried up for tomorrow again so I can get back it.

Was walking through a few silage fields on Friday. Some cracks in the ground I could get my fingers in right to the knuckle others only a wee bit. 2nd cut would be hard to lift anyway.

Cows are milking really well at the minute, but we've had a lot calved in may/June so that's probably down to that.

Rained all day with me today so it should make a bit of a difference.

Today's rain fall in mm from 1200am to 930pm

Looks like the ards won't be much greener this morning. Grass has certainly perked up around here, even fields where youngstock were down to the soil are a wee bit greener today.

Can we have another wet day in about a fortnights time please?
