@Coo man with respect you are crossing wires on this one. There certainly used to be an M&S contract in Northern Ireland, and probably still is, but its for milk, not cheese, and you'd have to talk to former Ballyrashane producers about that. (I suspect that the price you quote is realistic.) Dale Farm was not, and is not involved in that one. There is an arrangement between DF and Sainsbury's, and members were made aware of that at the time it was introduced. That's basically it.

My friend has always sold his milk to united and gets this premium for his milk for a few spring months .

Ah. That would be the spreadable butter scheme then, which is open to all.:)

Beat me to it @The Agrarian . Up to 3ppl bonus over base depending on the iodine value of your milk. BF drops like a stone, which we get penalised for and special meal which is £15/20 a ton more expensive.
Runs from May to mid July depending on when they have enough product made. Maybe would have hit that price last spring @Coo man but wont be anywhere near this one.

Now that makes more sense NSB has been around for years. It started in the Dromona catchment, got extended to N Antrim and then province wide. You feed a special ration high in rapeseed and it alters the milk fat to make the butter easier to spread. Bonus payments depend on the 'softness' of the milk and could be up 2p or more. It's very dependant on the grass quality, leafy low fibre grass. It's not for everyone, if you've a high yielding or spring calving herd, stay away but suits an autumn calving herd with lower yields in the summer.

Her mammy and daddy were Irish and she was born in the south, she's a left footer

Under the good Friday agreement, we can be Irish, British, Northern Irish, Irish and British, Irish and Northern Irish, British and northern Irish, etc etc depending on what side of bed you get out of in the morning.

I personally feel this is a case of blatant discrimination against your wee lady. If she was a horse, she would have got into the food chain no bother, regardless of ethnicity, religion or identity.

I think you have a case here.
