No purebred holstein, roughest we've had in 7 years. Here goes again.
Pure holsteins are generally not too bad
I remember we had one heifer calf years ago and she was a pure bitch for a few weeks. We had to tie her over the back and pull her down or she would have definitely broken someone's arm. We persevered for a month and she settled down a bit but would nail you if you broke concentration for a moment. It ended up I was the only one who could milk her. She dried off and calved down again to be the same lunatic as she had previously been. Two weeks and she was sold. A dealer was summoned to buy her and he brought a man with him at milking time to see her in action, he said ill work with her. He was milking in a byre and dad wasn't happy selling to him incase he got injured but the man got along just fine and said she was like a lamb with him. I thought he was crazy. But it goes to show a different man and a different place can work wonders!

Holstein is to my mind generally a quiet breed. I've also got loads of crossbreds, (some of montbeliarde fame) and I can truthfully say that I see no correlation with breed in the ones that kick, or ones that will jump hedges.

I can suffer a kicker only so long, start to over run on the milking.just when you her sorted another bastxxd appears. I can take my chances pretty well but it's the flying kick bar coming off that I hate most. It's like a hand grenade, shrapnel everywhere,I really hate getting the kick bar in the face .

Br friesian here. Mostly quiet but probably livelier than Holsteins but have a strand of weeton jackson that are kickers. Put in acr's last year and the kick offs increased with the cords making it easier for them. Any one tried bicycle tube for covers?

Seen this little mucker today.

I know there's talk of new entrants at the minute, but there has been a fair number of dispersal sales recently, with another established herd being advertised in the paper today. Suppose the trade is bringing them out, but it's always sad to see...
