Plan c mow tomorrow afternoon, ted Tues, lift Wed. May have to work with contractor, mow tomorrow afternoon, ted behind the mower and lift Tues. Most stressful time of the year. Grass taking no hurt but need some fields returned to grazing soon

Forecast for Tues/Wed looks good. Cut 35 acres on Thurs and lifted it Fri evening/Sat morning. Felt good to be telling people at the show we were at the silage. Hopefully get 25 acres this week and another 25 wont be ready for a fortnight Averaged 1 1/3 to the acre compared to less than a load last year and 10 days earlier this time.

Trying to get into a routine of reseeding 4 or 5 acres of cow grazing every year, but really needs to be burnt off at the start of August in case the weather turns wet, which can leave us tight for grass for the rest of the season. Get more out of it the next year though and the cows always rise a bit in milk when they go into the reseeded fields.
What are the silage plans this week?
Scratch head and wonder why more people didn't go last week! :( Then go daft and drop about 500 acre on Tuesday :D

Well yes and no, contractor can do maybe 3 or 4 times as much in a short window than a small farm operation so may get it done and dusted and on to next place while farmer would have only got half done and maybe have to wait a week to get finished up.

I like the flexibility of doing our own though, plan was to mow on Thursday and lift on Saturday, when we saw the forecast changing we started lifting on Friday evening. Contractor was somewhere else so wouldn't have got to us til Saturday when the rain came on.
