It's a Dna sample to ensure no switching of animals.
Which is ironic, because a few years ago we were closed overhead of an animal I had sold a few months earlier (just prior to a clean clear test)then the same animal showed up at a factory "absolutely riddled" with TB. I queried if it was our actual animal or the ear number which used to appear in the ear of our animal? The vet understood but said they were not able to keep a DNA data base of all animals. One gets the feeling they don't really want to seriously tackle TB, but I'm sure most will agree with that?!
