Comes in 3s so I'll add my bit, heifer stuck in cubicle yesterday morning, got her out but couldn't rise, out to field on the buckrake, still not up, not looking good.....................
Man me da hires to if he has a cow gets hurt or doesnt get up he gives her 1 chance with a bit of encouragement (a stick) if she doesnt get up he goes for the gun and shoots her on the spot. I think hes not far wrong cause iv worked at tryin to lift them with the hoist plenty of times and iv never had 1 make it. Its hard to giv up hope but its only drawin out the depression lookin at it

Two weeks ago I had a fleck x Hol 4th calves done the splits on slats. Lift, shackles, deep bedded house,12 ml of metacam. Rising and walking within 4 days. Never happened before...done the lottery that week.
Still getting shat on and pee'd on from a great height twice daily.
If u won the lottery ud stil be milkin. Its just bred into us to farm. If i won the lottery id just have more ground more sheds and more cows and a new tractor or 2 🤔

That's a half truth Z.

What takes out most involuntaries is a production disease, or consequence of being in a production system. These can indeed be affected by the standard of husbandry, but also the suitability of the production system to maintaining good health status, and the suitability of the animal to the system.

I cant disagree but cows dont self harm. Out of my last 3 fatalities 1 was my fault, I missed her, no excuses and 2 from injuries. I dont blame the cows. Yes its the system
What if its the bull that hurts them? How is this husbandry related? Should we put a wee sign up sayin caution slippery floor please refrain from jumpin that horny cow until your back in the field 😂

Could be 50/50. I've enough bother with strong heats on cows, and having to check around last thing to split them up til the morming. Don't know if i would hack letting bulls smash round slats all winter.
