Why? what's wrong with chicken?
Nothing wrong with chicken plenty wrong with 2 of them for a fiver !! You have to ask yourself what sort of diet the had ??? Or how could the chicken farmer have any margin ?? And most importantly where did the chicken come from ?? More than likely such chickens are of the rubber and water type .
Bit like 2 litres of milk in some shops for a quid . Best left where it is .

Two for a fiver is a loss leader plain and simple or trying to move produce before it hits expiry. As far as diet goes unless for a coccidiostat which is withdrawn from their diet pre slaughter the feed is plainer than it has ever been with no promoters or antibiotics. The modern chicken is very similar to the Holstein cow, pushed to its genetic limit. A modern broiler can be taken from day old (37g) to point of slaughter at 40 days (2600g) with an FCR of 1.4 to 1.5. Modern beef units can get cattle to point of slaughter at 500 to 550 days with a FCR of 9 to 12. No comparison. Also the life cycle of a Chicken is 6 weeks not 16-30 months so very fast to adapt to changing consumer trends.

Risk assessment: I know it's only three grab high but should a man with two ceramic hip joints be pulling back the cover? Dancing on ice! The joys of an open pit.
