Every buyer will have their own view of them of course. My thought would be they are something broadly similar to easy calving Angus on a Holstein. I.e. plain rumped and narrow backed. Most of that is the fault of the cow, but they just aren't strong enough to correct it in one generation.

Had a friend who finished all calves born . The difference between a lim and a friesan was forty pounds. Same feeding all the way through. Bring strong flashy calves are easy for the dealers to sell on.

Anyone using topsan sc+ teat spray ? Finding the kilco one with chlorhexodine dosent work great for me

Just noticed this. I don't know about other companies, but if you are a Dale Farm supplier, you really need to refer to the safe product list that they have on the portal. Products not on that list may contain QACs. It's hard to overstate the importance of this to the terms of some contracts they have. Testing for QACs goes on regularly at various stages in the chain. So it's just a friendly reminder that it's a very unpopular thing to have appear in the milk. If in doubt, leave it out.

We finish all calves as well and find that there is about £150 difference between holstein and lim/bb. We reckon it's about the same difference as if we sold as calves. Holsteins will eat more meal and take longer to finish than the continental types.

Yep sitting in the tractor stopped in traffic at a red light lifted my phone then a cop opens the door says 200 fine and 6 points. It’s a warning don’t do it again. Then he left. I was wondering what I had done wrong. I wasn’t even moving

Someone who worked as supplementary staff in the stations in the 90s and noughties told me recently that there was a change after Patton. The new ones didn't mix with the old ones. Different mindset. Although it sounds like a romanticisation to say that people used to join the police to catch the bad guys, but now they look for the handy tickets - there's probably some truth in it.

£30 no number plate( hadn’t got registration back from DVLA at that stage)
£30 no helmet

He was adamant that you couldn’t insure a vehicle on a chassis No, took a good while to get him convinced that he didn’t need a recovery truck !!
So had to show insurance at station

Had indicator on to turn into the field,

he was just a complete pr*ck!
The Cop driving was shaking his head and shrugging his shoulders with disbelief that he was actually booking me .

Had a look and learned a thing or two.
Taken from goverment website.

Crash helmets

Quad bike drivers and passengers in England, Scotland and Wales do not have to wear crash helmets, but it’s recommended.

You must wear a helmet if you’re driving a quad bike in Northern Ireland. You can be fined up to £500 if you do not.

Agricultural quad bikes

If you’re using a quad bike for agriculture, horticulture and forestry work you need to register it as a light agricultural vehicle.

Using an agricultural quad bike on the road

An agricultural quad bike used on the road does not need an MOT, but must be registered and licensed for road use and must have a number plate and third party insurance.

It will also need lights if it’s being used on the road after dark.

Vehicle tax

You do not have to pay vehicle tax on quad bikes used for agriculture, horticulture or forestry.

If you do have to pay tax, the class will depend on how you use your quad bike:

  • limited use tax class for bikes used on the road
  • agricultural machine class for bikes not licensed for road use

Nothing on it about pre or post sprays/dips. Only tank washing and parlour washing
