Not sure I admitted either of those. They wipe their faces clean and leave a bit forby. Whoever buys them at 3 weeks old would be looking to make a profit, we just cut out the middle men.

I sell my Black & White bull calves to a guy for £35 a head at 10 days old which he comes and lifts, saves me going to the mart with them. Also takes all the coloured calves too. He cries he’s making no money at them but lifts them consistently this past year. I try keep as little stock as possible. Cows and heifers that are of use only. I don’t need the hassle of keeping beef animals. I fully understand why you rear beef tho.

We've beef as well, finish heifers and sell bullock as yearlings. Last 4 or 5 years Bullock averaged around €800 at 15 months. If you can't make money on them you're not making money milking cows either. Now whether it's worth the hassle is ones own choice but I'd rather have them then not.

I'd like to think our 'beef' enterprise is of some use. When did you ever hear a dealer telling you he's making a ball of money.

I’m sure it is as you’ve already said. When does anyone tell you they’re making a ball of money. As long as we’ve a few pound for the weekend it’ll be grand.

What breed are you selling at 15 months for €800?

To round off tonight's debate...the only animal to leave a consistent money steam behind her for the last 40 years is the milking cow,not one that's dry and you're fattening but a milking cow, unless of coarse you're a total fxxking hash
Whilst I agree, if you have outside blocks I'd rather have beef than have extra cows and a zerograzer.

So, for any Unit.... Dale Farm producers your two choices from Ai Services are Rocket (suited to cows) and Eric (suitable for Heifers). I'd say out of all the AA bulls in the Ai Services catalogue I'd sell as much if not more Rocket than all the others put together!

A mix of Hereford, angus and hol/fr. Nicely done, 400kg approx. Not last year mind, hol/fr were back probably 100-150 but before that. 100 cows, 50 bullock 40k.
Why do southern farmers not use continental bulls. BB is short gestation, easy calving and add shape. Some AA are the same shape as Hol,but less growth!

Only heard of a few recently, he was always known for calving ease tho possibly becoming more difficult as he matures
You would have better knowledge than me with all your clients but I know two neighbours stopped using him after losing cows. I never used him. Always buy cogent for free gloves, sheaths and lube!
