Yes, she will grow after calving an extra pull in the parlour to help her along. What happened she go to a disco ??
I’ll tell you what happened. A beef farmer decided store heifers were too dear last spring so bought a pile of fres maiden heifers instead. Had absolutely no experience of dairy stock so asked an “expert “ when heifers ready for bulling.”Throw the bull in. They’ll grow “ They went in calf but didn’t grow much.

Don't think I'd bother about her then if that's her background. No bother calving a heifer at that age if she's been well treated and pushed on all her life, and has the genetics to utilise that feed to grow and perform. If she's been bought cos stores were too dear I'd say shes small for a reason.

The worst experts I find are those who have just started milking cows, can tell them nothing, they already know all,yes they can put milk in the tank but its money in the bank that counts

If a heifer calves at 20 months, will she grow anymore? Been offered one going cheap. Very small. Coming to Angus.

We’ve had a few accidental early ones, had a fleckvieh calf at 19 months a few years ago, I’d say she’s not far off 800kg now.
Also the earliest we’ve had one calf was a Holstein at 17 and 1/2 months. That cow had her 5th calving by the time she was 5 years 8mths, she’s not that big but has milked well. Don’t think it holds them back too much but I think we’ll stick to calving at 24 mth.

I'm taking a leaf from Greta Thunderbird and thinking more on the environmental impact

I was more thinking the financial impact.

Heard of a tanker driver recently pulling in during milking. Emptied the tank, put it on to wash and drove off into the sunset(border) Wash cycle and last 1000 litres went down the drain. Farmer never knew lorry was there and milked away.
