Northern Ireland Milk Price Tracker

Cows normally housed full time last week November and will go back to Grass as they calve ( not this yr?)
We treated every cow we could find with it in one go until they were clear. Took a few days and a bit of time but obviously reduces the amount living in the environment. Cow tracks now have no areas whee liquid can pool. A cowwith chronic digi was culled ( we had one with a nechrocitic (sp) toe)
Our bedding contains lime which I’m convinced helps harden the skin.
and we formalin footbathed 4 nights a week.
treating all cowswith visible lesions in one go really kicked started the process.

Reduction and then total removal of 3rd generation drugs.
Reductions in AB usage. From further reductions in dry cow tubes to using more painrelief instead of drugs in certain instances. Our antimicrobial use is now 6.8 mgkg the national 2020 target for antibiotic usage reduction is 21 mgkg.

Removal of AB use when treating toxic mastitis. ( we may get one every 18months so not upto date on new developments)
Discussions around getting rid of digi( we are now 6 months at least with no cases.) to the point We have currently stopped footbathing all together..
Making the Decision to have an independent person do our mobility scoring. That’s had huge benefits with I have banged on enough about on here.
what may not be apparent is that we do not see the vet regularly. We would have 1 fertility visit a yr 1 Pding session a yr so perhaps I’m not getting “free advice” in the way some of you are.
I could go on but I’m guessing This is all old news to you norden iron guys.
In fairness a lot of the above can be attributed to breed. As a below average farmer with BF I don't foot bath, have some dd but it's dying out. No pre or post dip, dry wipe only. No sawdust just lime in the cubicles. No dry cow ab just sealer. Cc bonus this month. Struggling one man band, nothing really gets done the way I would like but have to prioritize. BF are easy looked after. Bull into cows then pd . Some of us aren't that sophisticated but carry on regardless.

Lost my dog today, Had her 13 years. She started to get hard of hearing and got hit by a car. You don’t realise how much you liked having the dog about until she’s gone.

We've had a couple go that way, not easy. :(

It's not the same without a dog in the yard, although I did questioned our pup's parentage today when he decided to play hide the hoof knife.

A mate of mine was remarking to me at the end of January that his heavier land was as dry as its ever been through a winter. I'll have to ask him about it when I see him next.
