People are realistically going to need to make their 14 day quarantine about 3 or 4 days max, especially in a driving job where they can be almost entirely at arm's length from everyone else. It's going to do the rounds anyway. Just keep the old people locked in.

I think they should have already all moved the auctions out to the car parks. At least, that's what I'd have done. A wee tin roof over the guy with the mic and the clerk. No one allowed in the stock pens other than staff shifting cattle.

What age is old? So after working all their lives for their country you say now it's their problem and just lock them away to lessen our inconvenience? How very Christian.

That’s my problem with religion right there. It’s got nothing to do with religion or being Christian it’s got everything to do with a higher mortality rate and having enough beds to treat All the serious cases

Well, yes, that's the reality. I've got two elderly parents, who are not in the pink of health let's just say, and the best advice available for their safety is to keep them away from other people. That's what we're trying to do here, and it's not easy. Family next door is the same. Their mother is living in her own, and effectively locked in for her own safety. She can't leave her bungalow with help, and no one is allowed to have contact with her. They are going to the length of wiping down all grocery packaging, rebagging it in clean bags, and setting it on her doorstep. I'm on standby to do this for her when her family gets the virus, and they for us.

Its exactly our christian duty to do what we can to shelter vulnerable people from exposure to this. It's also our duty to consider how long we should drag this out for them, and what effect the lock down has on them mentally.

I don't look forward to this bug coming, but I'm realistic enough to know that healthy, working age people cannot sit at home if/until a vaccine becomes available in a couple of years time. We cannot know yet for sure, but hopefully scientists will be able to tell us soon, that once we are comfortably over the infection, we are no longer infectious. At that point my parents will really need and want to see someone who does not any longer pose a risk to them.

My church is currently working on what can be done for elderly and vulnerable people in our congregation, and beyond, and has put in place temporary online arrangements to help as many of us stay connected and supported as possible; and will be meeting online today all being well around usual church time. I know lots of churches will be doing similar. But we look to the day we can meet together again in one place. There will be no peace or return to normality until there is a broad base of immunity out there.
