If you cant borrow long term money cheaper than that, change banks

Been through this a few times. Banks here seem to be less competitive than the mainland. Around 3.5-4.5% seems to be considered a fairly run of the mill rate area for businesses in good standing, with option to pay early etc. Depends also on set up fee though, discounts on which seem to vary widely.

Regarding the article on loan and grant. Would tend to agree that it would seem unwise to take on the loan for spending on expansion/improvement schemes which you couldn't otherwise fund from another source, e.g. cash or bank loan.

I claimed the self employed grant. Checked with accountant, all I need is letter from buyer saying milk price down because of covid. DF sent one to their producers.
Only problem is grant is given at 80% of profit for 3 months averaged over past three years. According to accountant, some dairy farmers are making nowt.80%×0=0

I imagine anyone who has bought robots in the past 3 years has probably wiped out most if not all of their taxable profit! So no grant!

Third cut is jumping outta the ground. Be ready to mow sooner than I though.

Same story here, covered the pit on Saturday, 2 months after the 1st cut. Some parts of fields were OK, other parts were suckler cow silage, dear only knows what it'll average out at quality wise
You can only do your best as the weather lets you. Mines the same. Less milk in this wee land this winter might be no bad thing- maybe processors paying a fair price if they’re short??
