Maybe I’m just young & stupid[emoji23] we had good weather today with no rain but plenty of wind and sun pepping out every now and again. Gives rain tomorrow at 5pm so pressure will be on but all being well it’ll be in by then. Fingers crossed
If the grounds dry get it off if you can. No good weather in forecast and ground getting wetter, crop getting heavier wont get any easier.

How did it go? Bit of 3rd for a fella tonight was ok, not a great drying day but wasn't bad at all. 30 hr wilt if you could call it that.

When you look at the GDT it shows SMP and WMP at nearly 5 year highs. https://www.globaldairytrade.info/en/product-results/whole-milk-powder/ Ok butters back a bit but still good prices when considered historically. When you go back a few years the £ to $ was also a lot stronger. Why are the prices from the coops not better? Anyone have a crystal ball for the prices in coming months?
Was it just that we couldn't get the product to China and virus horse-trading and realignment within the co-ops with catering demand disappearing that kept things suppressed below the market. Hopefully a return to better things?

80% of our catering custom disappeared overnight. That's quite a market shock. Some of its back. But looking at the rising R, it's going to be some time before catering is in full swing. Retail took up some, but not all of the slack.

This will be a long haul back to things as they were, I mean at least a year. The present levels of controls are manageable, the food chain is operating, health care is not overwhelmed, businesses have adapted to reduced demand. Yes we've all lost out on social events and hospitality, leisure, travel etc have taken a major hit and may never return to the position before the pandemic. Even with an effective vaccine it's hard to see how we get back to things as they were.

I truly despair. I suppose you think trumps doing a great great job.
your generalizing again.Of coarse not. Any fool can see trump's an embarrassment. But as for vaccinations or not I'm allowed my opinion. If you want vaccinated carry on my friend. I wont stand in your way or impose my opinion on you
It's all hypothetical as we have no vaccine. Nearly 40 years since the aids epidemic and still no vaccine

Agreed totally. But it is a mystery to me why anyone would think a vaccine would be licensed that would harm anyone who took it ?
Yes parts of the regulatory process have been speeded up but not the third phase which will have the added advantage( in terms of speed) of being used in populations where the virus is actively spread which with most vaccines is not true.

After months of saying “Never,Never,Never”, I did my Red Tractor inspection today. Should never have worried about it. It’s farm quality assurance with the dairy and milking parlour added on. Actually see it as a really good thing now . May have to give the spark £200 for putting on switches and light fixtures but milking in a parlour where all lights work and your stainless steel is shining makes for a better work place. Cubicle house looked completely different when I switched on lights before leaving tonight (getting dark...nights are fair drawing in). Too many farmers keep putting off routine maintenance..too busy. RT gives us the kick up the arse we need to get the place sorted. Paperwork was easy too.

July had over 150% rainfall and only 54% of average sunshine(average for the last 40 years). June was poor too really but because were coming off the back of a fantastic spring it is the only reason cows are still out . I think if I housed at night I could rise milk but it too early.out for another month I hope

Seems like October already. Guess it'll either get worse or better. still have to sow for another cut on ground cut that spell 2.5 weeks ago. Hard to know, would nearly be better to buy silage and save the bother and let it be grazed/ tramped. The Joy's of heavy land.

More milk but at what cost? Bet you'd be putting some goodies in the wagon. How much extra work each day compared to shifting fencer? Yes grounds wet but if it was dry every day life would be boring. The sun will shine another day. Hope Lazy comes and gives you a good bollocking for talking about feeding silage in August.
