Iv tried washin them onto the sump in the pit and puttin paracetic acid and formaldehyde in the water but stil doesnt kill them. Have man comin to service parlour soon and would like rid of them

Get them in our parlour as well, for a while there this year there were half a dozen starlings appearing back and forth in the pit during milking and taking them off the pit walls.

You just need some hungry starlings.....

They hatch out into big dopey things like a cross between a bluebottle and a honeybee. But slow. They crawl up out looking for a dry place to hatch, leaving behind black shells like super sized rat droppings.
Yeah always seem to be climbin. Its been 4 years since i done for flies and iv had them for past 3 summers. Never made the connection but think al be doin for flies next year

I know a man who synced and ai a batch of heifers. Then hereford bull for nine weeks. Scanned, two empty. Put the 2 empties on done deal. Sold within the hour. Farmers are the biggest prats, think he got near1k each and they'll probably never breed. The joys of buying maidens.

Anyone into min till direct drilling grass seed. What's the cons

Reseed with an aitchison here, get slugs in the reseeds sometimes. Other than that not many cons that I can see

pros
Not many stones to lift
Can get reseeding done in poor weather/ground conditions.
If your fields are already nice and smooth to drive on you don’t have the work after ploughing to get them back to that state again
Fields still firm to drive on, not like ploughing, although according to some, some types of ground needs loosened up with the plough now and again

We currently have a field burnt off with the aim of direct drilling. Main reason being stone’s. We have had success with it in the past but I’m not as confident at this time of year and the current conditions. Usually a fella from your way does it with a Moore but I’ve heard good things about the Atchesion/simtech drill mentioned by @Suckndiesel

Main thing is the field needs to be clean ie no trash. No experience with the Moore type here, but the aitchison will work in very sticky conditions. Have drilled in mid September before, it’s not ideal but it worked, just leaves it late for post spraying if chickweed gets going in it.

I remember direct drilling a field years ago. Surprising how wet a field can get once burned off. The rain simply concentrated on the drill lines and killed the seed. From what I can see timing seems to be most important. Cost the same to plough as direct drill. As for the stones.... at what age are you promoted to the tractor seat

I have only had seed being killed if it’s an area that gets flooded. Costs the same as ploughing yes but you’ve only a single run with the roller to do afterwards.
Maybe direct drilling isn’t as suitable for the location you’re at with the extra rain
