Parked the honda quad last night beside the 3 bags of fertiliser I had left over, went around this morning and some thieving huir had stole the fertiliser
That's all gathered and waiting to go to an approved disposal center, whereupon you will get a relevant waste receipt to put in your red Tractor folder. Will be telling the kids to enjoy it.
Could be the last year of fertilizer bags.
May be cheaper to have a coal bonfire next year.
I definitely would. Milking 110 here on 100 acres , on the loan repayment wheel but would love to go back to 80cows.Would you reduce stock numbers if you could trade your carbon offset for a similar profit as 4he cattle reduction or if the offset payment was right would you save the world from your sofa and sell all your cattle, I certainly would reduce at least and would consider early retirement
As for global warming theres simply too many people in the world, earth is simply going through a reset process which could take thousand of years, who knows
Food prices are about to sky rocket only problem is so will input costs. The population of the world is increasing the next major world event will be food think about how farms will operate without fertiliserWould you reduce stock numbers if you could trade your carbon offset for a similar profit as 4he cattle reduction or if the offset payment was right would you save the world from your sofa and sell all your cattle, I certainly would reduce at least and would consider early retirement

Cant help but thinkin that if they go for solids based payments well end up worse off some way or otherDairy farmer group call for ‘Solid Change’
The group believe that the current milk payment system in NI is outdatedwww.farmersjournal.ie
Big night out on the 15th, anyone planning on going?
Pro or anti solids it’s hard to disagree that the discussion needs to take place
Is your view based on a gut feel of the processors trying to get one over you or actually sitting down with a calculator?Cant help but thinkin that if they go for solids based payments well end up worse off some way or other
Just a gut feel that the farmer normally ends up screwed over so other companies can make thier business more efficient and if the creameries take a notion thats the way it is as usual the farmer will have no say which is bonkers as the farmers supplyin a certain company owns the damned company but has virtually no say in how its runIs your view based on a gut feel of the processors trying to get one over you or actually sitting down with a calculator?
punctuation isnt my strong pointDo you ever stop for a breath man?
I take you point but you’re more pessimistic than me. I’d understand privately owned dairies burying their heads in the sand but I don’t get co-ops not being up for a open and honest discussion. Sure go to the meeting and see what they say.Just a gut feel that the farmer normally ends up screwed over so other companies can make thier business more efficient and if the creameries take a notion thats the way it is as usual the farmer will have no say which is bonkers as the farmers supplyin a certain company owns the damned company but has virtually no say in how its run
But its a bit of give and take between quality and quantity.solids contracts give YOU more control of your milk price. Your current system is more of a fixed price scheme where as solids contracts allow you to influence almost every penny of your base price.
In your situation buy your heifers from over the border and not just your big standard Irish friesian. Go for high ebi heifers maybe even a few cross breeds. You’ll be able to graze for longer. How do you manipulate it?
Feeding? Costs money to increase energy in feed to increase protein.
Breeding? Takes years to change genetics.
Which has greatest influence, feeding or breeding?
