Who's everyone banking with? Currently with HSBC but anytime dad asks to put my name on the account they make excuse that the loan agreement would need to be redone and it would cost a lot of money. They also wouldnt lend us money in the autumn for 15 acres over the hedge.

Want to get my own account opened so I can pay a bit of pension for myself and the odd bill

HSBC and Bank of Ireland. No real complaints about HSBC but BOI couldn’t have been more unhelpful when I converted to dairy 18 months ago

BOI been asked 3 or 4 times about moving to online banking, never call back, can't get speaking to anyone either and local branches all closed. Guess that's modern banking . . .

We been with the Ulster Bank for 3 generations, we've never had any issues in getting what was needed. The closure of the local branch is a real pain, online banking is grand but its hard to beat dealing face to face with people you know and who know you.

Dad and uncle were Ulster bank for years as well until they looked about borrowing money years ago for the new cubicle shed and parlour and they wouldnt lend which was when we went to hsbc.

Been with ulster bank for over 25 years but they have let us down twice in the last year with regards to borrowing, the first time we had a preliminary agreement but they kicked at the last minute. Local men said that the decision was made in RBS head office so nothing they could do. Left us in a bit of a hole to be honest but getting over it. Soon as we're sorted we're off.

What’s the old saying, they will offer u an umbrella when it’s sunny and take it away when it’s raining.

Banks are a necessary evil but at some stage in your life you need cleared, less stress.
The "I want" has to stop with what you can actually afford.sometimes being turned down is the bank doing you a favour. Over borrowing is reckless, spend less, save more and be happy with what you have, certainly borrow to you're 40-45 but get it cleared, don't leave a mess for someone else ro navigate, more than likely your wife, have a plan, what to sell

I'd agree you'd need to be on that bank account signing all the cheques to be honest, with dad as support. Also agree with having a personal account if you don't have one (they're free). Get one opened for your dad too, get online banking set up, and set up monthly drawings into both your accounts (which you can alter easily at any time). Farm account for allowable expenses only.

I can never understand why there are charges on a farm business account but a personal account is free banking. How many transactions do you do per month? 10? Then think how many the Mrs does. Not complaining about her, she's out in the real world and we're stuck in our wee world.. the farm with no shops. Just buying a cup of coffee, people swipe their card.
