Nortons Trailers

There were a lot of them around this area back in the day, they were one of the first with the monocoque body when most were still using drop sides with bolt on extra bits for grain and silage

Blimey there still trading . I thought they disappeared in the 1990s due to receivership. We had 4 of there trailers back in the day. I see from website current owners bought in 2000.

We have one of their grain trailers and our neighbour has two. Like @Steevo said, cant really fault them, Nice trailers that ride well, would happily have another.

25 years ago Dad said I could choose 2 new 10t silage trailers to replace our pair of 7t Armstrong and Holmes.
Budget £10k.
Wow, responsibility!
I did extensive research and decided 4 second hand 10t Nortons from one estate were a better deal.
Bought them off Nick Crummack and 2 arrived on a low loader a few days later.
Dad commented they didn't look that new. I said, neither will the next two.
Lightweight trailers but great for Ford 7740 up hills.
They hauled everything for 6 years and sold in our machinery sale in 2001 for £50 less than I paid for them.

There were a lot of farms around here with them. Neighbour had 2 8t Nortons, painted green and yellow with silage sides and towed them behind his 3760 JD trailed forager that was being pulled with a 3350 ?

There wasn't a lot of paint on them when they arrived.
Highlight was going silaging on the away land and driving in convoy with new 7840 with forager and pair of 7740's each with a pair of trailers behind.
We went past the yard of a neighbour as he walked across the yard. Perfect. ;)
I never did get any photo's of machinery or work in the 90's. :(

Fairly big farmer/ businessman ( sold cows = ready cash available)bought the rights etc to Norton ,based near Weston super Mare . They did start building again and locally were advertising them but I m 40 miles away and can t remember when I last heard about the brand so guessed they stopped building trailers . As others said , here in Somerset back in the 80 s , they were the trailers to have .

I bought 3 monos back in the early 1980s, probably got grant towards them too. They let you choose paint colour.
I've still got all three, the 6t single axle ones are only used for odds and sods jobs, but the 7t one with the pivoting twin axles is on muck duties all the time. Still plenty of paint on them, odd repairs but generally really good.
Norton even supplied me with some new axle pivots back along.
Are they still trading?

Fairly sure the back door for the grain or half of it was across the top at the back....like a little roof. Not great at grass would sit on it and rot it....we made a box section brace instead and then you could leave the grain door in tack. Trailer has been gone from us a good few years now
