I found time today to replace the missing scraper straps on the furrow press. It's not the most tidy job but I thought the "bodgineers" would hound me out for using new chain and bolts

I ran out of new chain though and the spare used bits were short so I had to join some

20170421_132900.jpg

And weld the bolts in as the links were bigger and the bolts could pull through

All set for next season now (y)

For feck sake lad ! did you not have some chain that was raised by the plough?

Adapted our ancient old teagle cement mixer to hydraulic drive and fitted brackets for the Jcb loadall.

We don't use it that often but it was always a pain to hook on and the shaft was never long enough to put her right down & too long to lift it right up!

This should make the job a bit easier now [emoji1]

What type of speed is the mixer running at??

About the same as a tractor 540 pto on tickover.... which is about 200rpm, I just got a motor that max speed was 250rpm and with the loadall at full flow with 3/8 hydraulic pipes it's about the right speed.... I can slow it down if need be though

Once its geared down by the big gear on the barrel I'd imagine it'll be about 30/40 rpm for a guess

Mega like for that!!

We did our one years ago to make it go on the linkage without all that bars and faff.
But that is a great idea, dead handy in awkward spots too.

Great idea!!
Is that a 6 spline female/female coupling?
If so, any links to where you got it? I have a few machines I'm converting from PTO to hydraulic drive and that coupling could be just what I'm looking for!!!!
Thanks.

Thanks! No the couplings are 25mm female with key ways in them. That's what was on the pump & I just welded a 25mm shaft onto the stub of the mixer & made a key for it.

I couldn't find any where online to source them either[emoji853]. I had this coupling left over from a hydraulic scraper tank job that I was on with a while ago.

Someone else will know where those couplings can be sourced though?? [emoji2]

I looked for a while but Could not find what I wanted. I had an 80cc hyd motor with a 6 spline shaft on it, and I thought that it would be easy to get a coupling to go between it and the spinners shaft!
I had to make my own in the end!

Some masseys use one piece 6 spline female/female couplings on the drive shaft to the front axle. I had them on a MF3645 and recall 3000, 6100, 6200 and 8100 were the same.

The massey couplings were silly hard and instead of easy to replace couplings wearing out, most of the wear ends up on the front axle pinion shaft. A bit of wear on the front axle pivot can cause expensive problems :( The second time I realised our massey nolonger had drive to the front axle we found that the pan mixers Weaving Machinery sold had a near enough identical (but not as hard and much cheaper) coupling on them. We had them on the massey after that but sold it before we found out if they wore out instead of the expensive and harder to replace parts.

The sprayer pump here has flexible coupling similar style to @JPM mixer, but it is larger bore with a 6 spline insert and when the origional splines wore out one of the surplus massey couplings was turned down to fit.

RS componets sell jaw couplings, but they only supplie them smooth bore so need the splined insert.

Most ag dealers can have that in next day. I have used that bushes to repair KV bedder trailers that wear the splines out on the shaft that goes on the gearbox

Great work, old man has ours converted in his head already, and we need one of that splined bushes too!!!

You'll only find them on the 3600 series the 8100 are on 21 spline shafts, you need to grease to front axel very well to stop these couplings giving trouble

Good old eBay [emoji1]. I have an unhealthy addiction with buying stuff from there..... but stuff is so cheap [emoji108][emoji1]

Thanks, I hadn't had to pull an 8100 appart, mostly 6100 around here when I did work experiance, just recalled they looked the same. Could be a source used of 21 spline adaptors from breakers.

It would have been nice to have now about the greasing and techniques such as jacking the axle up to grease it when we bought the tractor. Unfortunately I suspect the horse had already started to bolt before we bought it and should have found a fresh axle with negligable pivot wear for it the first time it gave trouble.

the axles are easily fixed actuall the front pin has a wear sleave on it and thats the one that genearlly wears the worst, ive had to do both of my fergys when i had them, all new bushes and managed to build the spines up with weld on the 3630 but had to have a new crown wheel and pinion on the 8130 although getting its axle knocked of was the main reason for pinion replacement

Its actually a flexible jaw type or similar coupling that I'm looking for. There are loads on the net but I have yet to see one with a six spline female end on it. I made my own by buying 2 of those types in your link, welding a flange onto each and bolting the 2 flanges together with about 15mm of flexible material between the 2 to allow for some misalignment. It works fine, but if there was an off the shelf product I would of used it!!!!
