Manage to get 35 acres spun on yesterday onto stubbles that had been scratched over to get a bit of tilth.

Plan was to roll last night but events prevented that.

We’ve had about 18mm of rain overnight and this morning so it’s going to chit in another 48 hours I bet so no chance to roll.

Hoping the rain has done the rollers work!

did a few experimantal strips a few years ago, playing with different cultivations. did one similar to you. it still grew fine. it wasnt quite as thick as the rolled one.

I don't think rolling makes much difference. Bit of a cosmetic exercise.

Some of our osr didn't get rolled and no difference in plant population. Got rained off when nearly finished.

Plenty broadcast into standing crops so that never gets a roll and it still grows. With a bit of tilth and then some heavy rain the soil to seed contact should be fine Im hoping.

We seriously thought of flat rolling with the heavy grass roller before and after drilling on the bone dry clay. Wish we had now. Very poor establishment despite the coulter and heavy press wheel of the moore drill rolling it in. It has been stubble cultivated to mix the straw in and cambridge rolled before drilling but those cambridge rolls just dont do enough on the clay in a dry time. Have had very good results flat rolling grass seed before now on heavy land in a dry time. As long is leaves "crumb"and not marzipan its fine.

No clay here…… all over sand stone. Millennia ago was under see or a beach
