The most astonishing thing is that according to BBC News, there's a Dutch company busy making components that don't need the toxic gas to function that's been making them for decades.

As for using the stuff in tennis balls, and to add bounce to vanity sports-like footwear ...??
True, it's been banned for use in such things, but there are old examples mouldering across the planet as we read.

BBC News - Climate change: Electrical industry's 'dirty secret' boosts warming

Typical bad reporting by the BBC trying to make something out of nothing. Its nothing to do with fossil fuels or renewables its just the way the grid itself works and probably was a story 5 years ago but time has moved on with new systems being built without Sf6 and the Sf6 in old systems replaced with a synthetic alternative.

If you feel like being a nerd ABB brought the product out in 2016.
