Not so high health heifers

I'm not going to mention any names yet, but I'm starting to feel I have been done!
Last year I bought some, advertised as "hi health" pedigree bulling heifers. ThEy were sold as accredited bvd johnes level 1. Happy enough good heifers so paid good money for them.
I went to see them again last week as he had some more advertised, got him to explain the bvd johnes status. This time he is only vaccinating against bvd and quickly brushed over the accreditation by saying it had never been found. Still maintains he is johnes level 1. I said I wanted to see some accreditation for johnes and bvd before I do a deal and he said he will sort.
However got home and had a look online at his johnes status and it is saying he is level five!!
Obviously I won't be buying this years heifers if that turns out to be true, but where do I stand on the heifers I bought last year? I can prove they were advertised as high health?

Threaten to go public and name and shame him as not declaring Johnes status when selling pedigree heifers, unless he refunds you difference in value between pedigree and commercial heifers.

You'd need to be able to prove that they weren't Level 1 last year and that he sold them as such. If it was all just taken as word of mouth , this could be tricky if he doesn't play ball. I'd get in touch with whichever company he is testing with to see if they will tell you of the guy's status for the year that you bought the heifers. Since it's all on public record anyway , I don't see why they wouldn't.

For the future , if someone claims he is testing , then ask to see his accreditation papers/certificates or his test results. Yes , I know most people won't , but when you've been once bitten.......

If you've been lied to , get his Breed Society involved , they all want to sell cattle on high health these days as they believe it sells bulls to customers. They won't take kindly to a member besmirching their good name. Get your vets involved and tell them of your worries. Let them make a case to the Breed Society about how your herd has been put at risk.

Being level 5 on johnes he could either have had a bad breakdown or he simply isn't testing for it, but either way you need to find out what the state of the heifers you bought last year were. I don't know if you would get any comeback from it after 12 months or not.

Which health scheme is he with, cause I've been testing for the last 8 years and I don't even show up on the database of the health scheme so it may be that their database hasn't been updated in a long time.

If........If they were johnes 1 last year when you bought them(which is how I read your OP) He has obviously had his yearly health test since you bought yours & has had a Johnes positive or reactor or false positive, whatever the correct term is,He"s failed. Will have to culture dung sample in lab &/or re test on blood.Think he will need 3 clear tests to regain accredited status. However if he passes on re test of positive animal I think he will regain status. This does not help you,if this is the case, methinks you will have bought your 1st batch in "good faith" he would sell em in "good faith" this does not mean your heifers aren"t healthy @bovine is yer man.IMO all health schemes should be standardised so all breeds are singing same tune etc.Our breed "encourages health schemes" but when the sales catalogue comes alot have no accreditation,no upto date tests, are not testing for sod all.....these vendors should hang there heads in shame.

If a car dealer told you a car had full service history and one lady owner, but no paperwork would you believe him ?
I would take no notice of anything the vendor says and do my own research
