Nroso heavy handed email

Just to reiterate my issue was not as much the difficulty of getting points but the disproportionate penalty of not being able to rejoin for 12 months if I did not.

I should have some niab points on the way to nroso as we speak.

I really worry about the effect the pressure of this sort of thing has on people, it is totally unnecessary to send an email like the one I received yesterday. Farming is tough at the moment, I really don’t think some people have any idea of what the long term effects on somebody’s health could be if threats like this actually come to fruition. I know I sound dramatic but when we continually see and hear mental health discussed in the media, perhaps nroso and the like should think before they write.

It’s worse than that. It pushes people into farming sheep, which are about the only things you can sell non assured nowadays. That’s what’s happened round here anyway. I wouldn’t wish sheep farming on anybody.😉

Lots of other threads on here about similar situations and how they were dealt with ,good or bad.

Speaking as a (former) arable man, there is actually a modest pleasure in keeping some sheep...

My wife however, would agree with your sentiment!! ;)

Good point well made.

Be worth writing a letter to FW to get it highlighted.

Yep. I’ve got £34,000 worth of grain sales hanging in the balance over my NRoSO points so tomorrow morning I’m doing an Ei operator course to get another 2 points that might help me get to 30 by 3rd of Feb 22. I could be taking the Mrs for a coffee or plumbing in the dishwasher but no, always some fudging Mickey Mouse stuff to do for these schemes that I can’t fit into the working week. Madness really. I ought to Jack it in for all its worth.

They tried to get me out of RT last year as I hadn’t had my sprayer MOT due to Covid restrictions. They set me a date over the Christmas holiday as the time limit to have it MOT’d by an approved tester during frosty weather. I’ve never known such an inflexible organisation with so little concern for the logistical difficulties we faced during Covid.
By contrast I am also a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. If they see you are struggling they actually have folks who can help you out and get you going again. Fat chance of that with this lot.
I just stopped paying them, because i didn't want it any longer points or no points, that's why they 'threw me off ' no other reason.
it was pretty easy to gather that they new nothing about spraying , yet another of the NFU's bright ideas, ....not.

TBH I don’t want it any longer. They have tried to impose corporate bull sh!t on artisan and one man band / small family farm enterprises and they are killing them by a thousand bureaucratic cuts. It’s no longer farming as we know it. It’s designed to hand agriculture over to corporations on a plate. It stinks really.

I am at the end of my 3 year cycle for Nroso. What with one thing and another I have not managed to do as many training events as usual and ended up with 29 points. Saw this on my statement and coincidentally my local NIAB conference was last week so I popped along and signed the BASIS and Nroso paperwork. I have no doubt that my attendance is recorded and the paperwork is on its way to Nroso. However yesterday I received an email from them saying that I was suspended and if I haven't achieved the points by the end of the first week in January I would not be able to re-join the scheme for 12 months.

I confess I had a bit of a paddy on the phone, I am not the biggest (or smallest) farm but I am the only one here who has all the licences to spray, actually too many as I am BASIS qualified. If I was to be chucked out I could not market my crops or even more critically for me feed it to my Moos. I know a contractor could be brought in but that is not the point. It is punishment that by a very long way is greater than the crime involved and as far as I can see just a way to make sure people pay money and go to the Nroso sponsored training courses. I understand why they feel we need to do CPD but it should be managed fairly and perhaps more independently. I could actually have COVID at the moment and be unable to get any points, would they show any compassion? After my call yesterday I doubt it.

With all the issues around Red Tractor and feeling particularly grumpy about the email I thought I would post this, what does the TFF massive think?

Basis used to cover you for Nroso points. Why they dropped that is beyond me. 50 points per year rather than however many Nroso you need over 3 years should be ample to show you’re keeping up to date.

Like i said, I DON T AGREE. I'm merely creating debate, After all this is a discussion forum. I also said. They need to be very harsh to justfy the merit of their own scheme. If they appear soft then their own scheme lacks the credit they think it has.

Why does it need to be harsh at all ? Is there anything in life that needs to be treated harshly ?

Whether someone has a bit of paper or not has no baring AT ALL on the quality of the food we grow. RT, NROSO, ADHB - if they ceased to exist years ago there would be no difference in the world other than 10,000s of happier people who are no longer stressed and better off to boot.

If you are a BASIS member with a current certificate this gets you 10 points with NROSO. This can be done annually and can be backdated in your current NROSO 3 year window. Look under FAQs on NROSO website.
