My old uncle, Cambridge educated, degree in agriculture, been spraying all his life and experimenting before the lecturer was born was attending one of these CPD meetings, turned round in his seat and said to me, “Isn’t this just the very thing that has sucked all the joy out of farming.” Those who weren’t snoring wholeheartedly agreed with him. How right he was. They take us for straw chewing fools but I’d assert that nobody who is still in the farming business today is so ignorant that they need this kind of Mickey Mouse annual training on a compulsory basis. Assurance may have started with the best of intentions but it’s grown into an industry in its own right that needs to perpetually grow and feed itself at our expense. That’s the problem. And the money can only come off our bottom line.
They need to rein it massively IMO or they’ll lose all credibility and they’ll lose good people from the industry for no reason at all.
I agree . I’m fairly easy going , but despite always passing the inspection , it’s one thing that gets me agitated days beforehand . This years virtual inspection involved uploading 68 documents of one sort or another.
I only really need it for selling wheat, as I can sell barley farmer to farmer, and crops like maize don't require it .
I must ask the local merchants what discount non assured wheat would be.

When people are starving in the world do you think they want a sticker to eat it?

Sounds like there are online courses in the pipeline.

Would think NROSO would have had this sorted before now. They must have been too busy doing...........f’ all
I like John Rhodes a lot and their courses are always brilliant and fun.

....However...... if you look up their postcode on google maps (Satellite is best) then scroll Eastwards a bit, this where we might end up if NRoSO think we haven’t got enough points!

IMO, this is where NRoSO should live anyway.
It is full of some of the worst and most dangerous low-life’s there are.

I had an email today, informing me how many points I need to get in the next 12 months.
Considering we’ve been in the pandemic since March, and some of us have also been shielding, with no events, field trials or even close contact with agronomists . Don’t you think they would’ve rolled things over for another year.
Another money grabbing monopoly , only interested in filling their coffers.

Another thing it would have been great to sort out at the VI. They run this broken system.

You should have refused to upload the documents. Our virtual inspection involved me holding the phone over the required entries in the file and him reading them as if his was sat next to me.

I felt at the time that I had more control over the documents than holding the phone , but it did take a while .
I told the assessor that many of the documents that don’t change from year to year, should remain on file and not need re inspecting every year, which I’m told is something they are looking at .

I usually just go to the annual course - 10 points and job done for the year...quite enjoy them as well tbh.
Of course there will be no course next year but have not been offered an alternative online or otherwise. They want us to get the points, surely they have to always provide us with an opportunity. Not scuttling around other organisations events to pick them up

I said the same, why do they need to see mine and dads nsts tests every year or if the Nroso is in date for another 2 years don’t ask for it again etc etc if the farm hasn’t changed the farm map hasn’t either ...

Well done you, our inspection is overdue and I'm not looking forward to hours of time in-between feeding up putting heaps of crap through the scanner onto the computer and emailing it to someone who I've paid 500 quid to just to say that everything s great apart from something stupid like I haven't calculated my mycotoxin number!!😠

I declined the remote inspection. Wouldn't of been able to have a live video around the yard, and tbh, I could see myself spending too much time uploading documents to their portal.
Instead will just chuck all the info at him when he arrives and leave it to him. And a socially distanced tour of the yard.......he can walk 10 metres behind me!!

Dropbox have a great app for your phone that scans document to your cloud box. You can then just share the whole folder with the inspector.

Makes life very easy. Not that they like easy it seems. They like time wasting.

Annual Training Event - on-line learning

Dear all,

We are pleased to announce that the 2020-2021 NRoSO Annual Training Event will still be going ahead but to ensure that all members have the opportunity to access this, the event will move to a web-based platform.

We are working with the providers of Ei-Operator to develop the e-learning course and expect this to be live from 14th January 2021.

The arable e-learning course will involve four topic areas and after each section there will be a small multiple choice question section which requires 80% pass rate (or 4/5 questions to be answered correctly in each section) to move onto the next module. All four modules are required to be completed before details are passed to back to NRoSO for points to be allocated.

The fruit e-learning course will involve three topic areas and after each section there will be a small multiple choice question section which requires 80% pass rate (or 4/5 questions to be answered correctly in each section) to move onto the next module. All three modules are required to be completed before details are passed to back to NRoSO for points to be allocated.

Members will not need to contact City & Guilds to confirm completion of the e-learning as we will be advised by the providers of Ei-Operator on a regular basis of those who have completed these courses.

We anticipate that each module will take roughly 25 minutes to complete (30 minutes for the fruit) with five minutes to complete the multiple choice questions so an average two hours, and as such it has been agreed that the course will be awarded eight NRoSO points for this year (five BASIS points have been allocated).

This e-learning will be available till 30th June 2021 and members who sign up before this date will have till 31st August to complete, there are also unlimited attempts to pass this. The cost of taking the annual training course is £30.00 (£25.00 + VAT).

Further details of how to access the course will be made available soon and full details will be available in the winter edition of Pro-Operator. Please send any queries relating to the Annual Training Event to [email protected]

Regards

NRoSO

I had my membership ‘suspended’ on Tuesday.
called them, asked why they were being unreasonable when every event since March has been suspended.
I’ve got 45 days to find some points or they’ll terminate my membership, and with it my membership of the grain assurance scheme.
He couldn’t answer when I asked where my points were from the farce that was Virtual Cereals ‘Event’. “We’ll look into it”.
