number plate

Dad got one for a joke in 1945 when he was in the RAF. He just sent a fiver to the local authority and they issued it. When he died in 1987 we weren't interested in keeping it so we sold it to a well known Northern football club who still have it on their manager's car so it pops up on tellie now and then. Not sure if we should have kept it, but it got us sorted back then so everyone was happy.
What was the plate?

I've still got the original number plate, & log book, from my very first LR. A 1947 plate, three letters & three numbers. It is still registered with DVLA but I have no idea how to do the change to my 24 year old current LR. If I could I would but hey-ho.
I'm not really a fan of personalised plates but I did see P1 KEY once on a Merc. I bet this was worth some £'s. An old girlfriends mother had PEP 51 on a Jag in her yoof & I bet this would also fetch some dosh! I believe PEN 15 is banned!

It is very simple costs about £80. Do it soon they only keep them on retention for 10 years before you lose them

I'm not sure what to make of private plates tbh. Some of them are a bit tacky but on the right car with the correct initials it does look ok. Nothing worse though than a plate made up to try and match a name when the spelling isn't 100% right and you have to use your imagination to try and work out what it's meant to mean. Also terrible is a private plate on a cheap car. My BIL and his ex wife bought one each for their sons when they were born. My initial reaction was :wtf: but now they have split up and hit rock bottom the numbers look even more ridiculous on twenty yr old cars, one of which is a Peugeot 309 estate in metallic Kermit the Frog green. I bet it costs more to transfer the reg every time than the bloody car is worth. (n)

I don't think PEN 15 is banned. It once belonged to a well known motorcycle and truck racer who lived in Cambridgeshire. Word is that he upset some but amused others driving round with this on his car.

I am a self loving pretentious person. But I'm also a tight Yorkshireman.
I can make a plate last for 2 generations.
My number plate is the son's initials. (y)
The plate is now worth more than my car. :(

The wife's is our daughter's initials. We've told her that she can't change her name if she gets wed.

Ripon Farm Services have R1 PON on their low loader.
I wanted to buy a car with P155 OFF. I later saw it in Farming News on a farmer's Daihatsu or something.

When I had my 80" LR (@Pilgrimmick)
30 something years ago there was an old brown Austin Allegro locally which had the number plate MUD 80S (so c 1978) I'd have really liked this on the old machine as it was an 80 'S' with a Rover 3500 motor lurking under the bonnet & LWB brakes so it did stop as well as go!
Here's one but not the same number.

I have the original plate on the 80” Land Rover, same format. Think it was the second one sold in Wiltshire.

Wife worked for a brigadier once. He used to have a Triumph Acclaim for the cleaner and other staff to ride about in. Number plate was 7 UP. He hadn't got a clue about its potential value. Left the car (complete with plate) to the cleaner in his will, along with a few cottages.

I bought both my children a plate when they were young, nothing special but they mean a lot to our family, paid £175 each , to sell today about £800, not bad for a bit of fun..

So can you put one on a tractor? Say your farms initals then have that no. on all your trailers? Or if you put said no. on pick up all owned by business can you still put same no. on ag trailers?
